About me and my therapy practice
Warm, empathic, experienced and good-humoured, I am a Íø±¬ÃÅ-registered integrative counsellor meaning my approach draws from different therapeutic models (primarily person-centred) to best fit you and your needs. Together we will explore concerns, identify and gently challenge patterns, limiting beliefs and ingrained narratives to facilitate meaningful change at your own pace.
I firmly believe that our past affects our present and I will help you to join the dots to make sense of your issues and your self.
I have particular experience working with creatives, the music industry, performing arts, boarding school-related issues and substance misuse.
More generally, I can help with relationship and family issues, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, imposter syndrome, life transitions, trauma, identity and loss.
I support people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and neurodivergent conditions (particularly ADHD and autistic spectrum), working inclusively with compassion and respect.
Where & How?
I work 1:1 with adults and young people (16+), primarily face-to-face, from secure, comfortable therapy rooms in various locations across Brighton & Hove, London (Dalston and Clapham), or online (or a hybrid approach if that’s what works for you).
I offer sessions on an open-ended basis or for a fixed term. (Sometimes we start with a fixed term and keep going)!
Please do contact me to arrange a 20-minute telephone or online appointment, free of charge. During this initial consultation, I can answer queries you may have, discuss any concerns, identify what you want from therapy, and explore how I can help you to achieve your desired outcome.
Practice description
As a qualified Integrative Counsellor in private practice, I draw primarily from my training in person-centred, attachment and transactional analysis therapeutic models
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Íø±¬ÃÅ) and work within their robust ethical and professional standards - a reassuring kitemark of good practice.
I am committed to ongoing professional development via engagement in supervision, workshops, conferences and staying up to date with the latest research and therapeutic initiatives. Additional training includes Boarding School Syndrome (working with trauma experienced by ex-boarders), Internal Family Systems (IFS), working with children and young people (CYP), working with trauma, and disordered eating.
A little bit about my career experience:
Following a Politics degree, I eventually found my way into the UK music industry where I worked in both the mainstream and independent sectors of labels, artist development, radio and TV for over twenty five years before taking the life-changing decision to retrain as a counsellor. During my training I worked in drug and alcohol services supporting clients with recovery from addiction. I also held placements counselling children and young people at an inner London academy, music and performing arts students at BIMM Brighton, as well as adults at a means-tested counselling service. Post qualification, before developing private practice, I was a counsellor for young people at a music and performing arts college and an assessor for a local charity providing adult low-cost counselling.
My first session
The first session will vary depending on your experience of therapy previously. Usually, an assessment will have been made in advance and I will have sent a draft contract for perusal. We will go through this together in the first session, amending and adapting as required. We will also check over any assessment queries.
The first couple of sessions we look at family history/ significant relationships - it is a process of getting to know, feeling out, establishing trust and a sense of safety.
