About me and my therapy practice

Life can be difficult at times and it can sometimes feel quite overwhelming. We may not always understand why we feel or act the way we do and our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves may prevent us from living our lives to the full.

It can be difficult to explore how we feel with those people around us who are personally involved in our lives and this can make us feel alone with our problems. Our feelings and emotions can so easily get stuck inside and that’s when talking therapy can really help.

Coming to see a counsellor for the first time can often feel quite  daunting. However, counselling is really an opportunity to work on your relationship with yourself and talking to someone who can hold space for you and who has been trained to listen to your story empathically and to help you make sense of your experiences can be profoundly helpful.

When we allow ourselves to explore our experiences, relationships, thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive and confidential space, free from judgment or consequence, we can start to understand them better and gain insight into how and why we act and think as we do. This helps us identify and break unhelpful and often unconscious patterns that might be working against us.

In doing so we can achieve a deeper understanding and compassion for ourselves and for those around us and move towards feeling a greater sense of calm and freedom from whatever has previously been holding us back.

Practice description

My counselling style is very warm, empathic and supportive. As an integrative therapist I am able to draw on various therapeutic techniques in order to meet you wherever you may be.

I offer Psycotherapy, Counselling and CBT from my therapy room located in Henley on Thames.  Counselling is usually shorter term work which focuses on a specific issue and how it is affecting us in the present.  Psychotherapy works at a much deeper level and over a longer period of time to explore unresolved issues or events from our past and learn how they are affecting our thoughts, behaviours and relationships in the present. In CBT we work with our automatic thoughts, feelings and behaviours which often maintain unhelpful, distressing and sometimes life limiting patterns and cycles. We challenge these thoughts and break these cycles and in doing so seek to create and nurture new ways of helpful thinking about ourselves and the world around us.

Therapy is confidential and collaborative, and clients always have full autonomy over the direction, pace and duration of their therapeutic journey.

I offer emotional support to clients who are struggling to navigate challenging life stages and relationship difficulties. I also work with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties including:

- Generalised anxiety
- Depression
- Social anxiety
- Health anxiety

I also offer online and single session therapy for those wanting to talk to a therapist but unable to commit to ongoing sessions, on NHS waiting lists or for those who would like to come and experience what therapy is like.

My first session

There is usually an introductory session either in person or on the phone when we can both decide if we are good match to work together. We will discuss what brings you to counselling, what you are hoping to achieve and how I might be able to support you. I will also use this session to assess your individual therapeutic needs to make sure I am the right person to support you.

Therapy sessions are usually agreed on a weekly, open-ended basis until you decide that you are ready to finish.
