My working hours are 9am - 3pm Tuesday - Friday. Over the summer holidays (end July - end Aug) sessions for new clients are limited and I'm offering free initial calls with availability for weekly therapy to begin at the start of September.
About me and my therapy practice
You became a mum expecting joy but instead you've found yourself lost in survival mode; overthinking, simmering rage and wondering where the woman you used to be has gone. In therapy with me we calmly and gently move you from merely existing, to actually living life.
I specialise in working with mums because I've been in that place where you question yourself, constantly trying to find that thing that will make you feel better, the routine that will work for your child, the gentle parenting scripts that you find but end up reciting through gritted teeth, and I know how exhausting it is.
As a mum who has been through therapy and come out the other side, I get it. I know it can feel scary opening up to a stranger (or anyone!) and that's why first and foremost I'm a human and a fellow mum who happens to also be a well qualified therapist who can help get you unstuck.
As your therapist I am with you in all the ups and downs of life; the things that are hard to share, the deep places that may feel scary to go, and the wins, however big or small, that need celebrating. You might cry, you might laugh, you might swear, it's all welcome.
Together we'll explore:
> what your body's stress response is doing, help you understand what that shoulder tension and aching jaw is telling you
> the reactions you have in certain situations and where they're coming from so we can meet the different, and often conflicting, parts of you with compassion and soothe them
> in the moment strategies for when anxiety or anger arise so you can learn to return your body and mind to calm
> longer term strategies that will mean feeling anxious, angry or low is less likely and easier to move out of
> the wider societal messages that are contributing to keeping you stuck so we can find your voice, your needs and your desires amidst the noise
All so you can be the mum, AND the individual, you want to be, because you are just as important as your children.
Practice description
I'm an integrative therapist which means I use a number of different therapy types. This gives me the flexibility to tailor our sessions to you. I've worked with many mums and no two people's experience is ever the same so I feel it's important that therapy reflects that.
The therapy types I draw on include person centred, compassion focused therapy, parts work and psychodynamic therapy. I have experience of working with trauma (of various shapes and sizes) and prioritise you feeling safe in anything we discuss.
I also bring in systemic awareness to our work because being a mum is hugely influenced by the expectations of society, the systems that often let us down and the messages that keep us stuck in patterns that can feel frustrating or confusing.
My first session
To start our journey together I offer a free initial phone call which lasts roughly 20 minutes. This can be booked online in the link above. Via this link you can also let me know if there's a particular day/time you're looking for and I'll always get back to you on this before our call.
Our initial call is space where we can briefly explore what you're experiencing at the moment, you can learn a bit more about what it's like to talk to me and it gives you a chance to ask any questions you might have. There's no obligation, the most important thing is for you to get the right therapist for you.
Starting therapy together, we always meet weekly as it's important to build our relationship and trust for therapy to work. However you are always in control and there is no set number of sessions.
In the first session we start wherever you feel comfortable - no assessments, no set questions to answer, just a space for you to share and we go from there. If you don't know where to start, that's okay, I'm here to help guide you.
When it feels like things are working well and you want to drop to fortnightly, that's fine. Ready to finish but want the flexibility to drop in for a one off if needed, also fine.
