About me and my therapy practice
I work under the business name of Just Allow Now, as a relational, humanistic, integrative counsellor; this means that I draw on various complementary therapy modalities to offer to my clients rather than a single counselling approach. The primary integrated modalities and therapy theory I utilise to inform my work with clients are Gestalt, Psychodynamic, and Transactional Analysis, and Person-centred.
For individual clients we utilise the relationship we build between us to help you understand your experiences by exploring what materialises and enacts between us during sessions. The goal is to assist you to better understand your experiences, thoughts, and feelings that all go on inside you, and between you and others, via looking at how that plays out in the therapy room.
With couples/polyamorous work I concentrate on the relationship as the client. A primary way I assist couples is by helping them to recognise and navigate their defensive processes which can lead to being more able to listen and hear to what your partner thinks and feels. I can actively assist in ensuring each partner interprets and understands what the other partner is offering as they mean it, to avoid important infomation getting lost in translation.
I have a very collaborative approach to counselling. I want you to feel that another person is invested in actively helping you to make sense of your experiences and what is going on for you. It’s important to me that you don’t feel that you are on your own in trying to understand your behaviours, thoughts, and feelings. My style of therapy is to proactively assist you in exploring your experience. Not only to listen during sessions, but to also work together in understanding why you may be feeling the way you are.
