About me and my therapy practice
The counselling approach I use puts you at the centre of the counselling process, allowing you to talk openly in a supportive and non-judgemental space to work through your issues and problems.
I am experienced in helping clients with anxiety, stress, low mood, low confidence / self-esteem, relationship issues, work related issues, academic pressures, bereavement, loss & grief, carer support, personal development (including trainee counsellors), life transitions such as retirement, divorce / separation, moving to university, aging, and menopause. I have helped many clients to gain clarity, improve their wellbeing, and to find a pathway forward.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the City with professionals under high pressure, and later in academia, supporting students, academics, and my own members of staff. These experiences taught me how to understand what people need when they’re feeling overwhelmed, and how to help them find their way forward. It also means I’m familiar with the demands of corporate and academic work.
My counselling experience includes working with a leading mental health charity Mind, both as a bereavement counsellor and with people struggling with anxiety and depression. I have also worked with Southend Carers, and the Open Access Counselling Services. I’m currently working with Mind’s Dove Private Service, BetterHelp, and my own private practice to continue to help clients through life’s challenges.
Thanks to my experience working with a variety of people as a counsellor, I understand that you may be seeking counselling at a point in your life where you feel anxious, low, overwhelmed, and don’t know where to turn, or simply in need of a space to work through your thoughts or feelings.
It may be that you don’t know if counselling will help. I can only say, both from personal experience and the people I have had the pleasure to support, that change is possible. With the right support you can find hope and a new way forward.
Practice description
How I help:
Working with me, you’ll be able to explore your issues and experiences and how they might be influencing your life. We’ll explore how you can feel better about yourself, gain more confidence in who you are, and learn how to look after you. This will enable you to feel happier with yourself and will also improve the quality of your relationship with others.
My clients often share that therapy has helped them:
• Build Self-Confidence & Self-Esteem: By understanding yourself more deeply, you can see your worth beyond past experiences, allowing you to live more fully.
• Take Better Care of Yourself: It’s difficult to prioritise yourself when you’ve been used to putting others first. But many people find it’s a relief when they finally start to meet their own needs.
• Improve Relationships: As you gain clarity about your needs, you’ll be better equipped to communicate openly, leading to more authentic and fulfilling connections.
• Find Emotional Strength: Working through past pain allows you to handle life’s challenges with greater strength. You’ll gain the power to believe in yourself and your ability to be able to cope with the stresses and strains of life.
• Experience a Sense of Calm and Control: Instead of feeling like your thoughts and emotions control you, you’ll have the tools to process difficult emotions rather than feeling overwhelmed.
My Approach - I believe in life we are given certain ingredients, and my role is to help you make them work for you, by supporting you to make something meaningful and nourishing with what you have.
