About me and my therapy practice
I work in a calm, compassionate, and person-centred way, offering a safe and non-judgemental space for adults, children, and young people to explore their feelings and experiences. My approach is rooted in empathy and respect. I believe every person has the capacity for growth, healing, and change when given the right environment to be heard and understood.
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred counselling, integrative therapy, and creative interventions (particularly useful for children and young people). This flexible style allows me to tailor sessions to meet each client’s unique needs, age, and stage of life.
For adults, I support clients who may be feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or struggling with life transitions and self-esteem. For parents and families, I offer a supportive space to navigate emotional challenges together.
My goal is to help clients feel grounded, empowered, and better equipped to manage their wellbeing in everyday life. I offer online counselling across the UK and in-person sessions in Northampton, also supporting clients from Milton Keynes, Wellingborough, and surrounding areas.
Therapy with me is collaborative; we'll work together at your pace, exploring patterns, building self-awareness, and nurturing the tools you need to move forward with confidence and clarity.
Practice description
Grassroots Counselling is a warm, inclusive counselling practice based in Northampton, offering both in-person and online therapy for adults, children, and young people. The heart of my practice is to create a grounded, nurturing space where clients feel safe to grow from the roots up, building resilience, emotional awareness, and confidence.
I specialise in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, family challenges, and self-esteem issues, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing and personal development.
For children and young people, I use creative and play-based approaches that allow them to express emotions in a way that feels natural and comfortable. For adults, I provide a reflective, gentle, and practical space to process experiences, explore identity, and find balance.
At times, therapy may bring up comfortable and uncomfortable emotions, moments where things feel easier and others where it feels more challenging. This is a natural part of the therapeutic process. My role is to support you through both the good and the difficult moments, helping you build understanding, confidence, and coping skills along the way.
I work within Íø±¬ÃÅ ethical guidelines, ensuring a professional, confidential, and safe service at all times. Sessions are offered in a calm and welcoming environment, either in-person in Northampton or online, providing flexibility for busy parents, professionals, and students across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.
Clients often describe my style as warm, down-to-earth, and empowering. My hope is that you leave each session feeling seen, supported, and one step closer to a greater sense of emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
My first session
Your first session with me is a gentle introduction to counselling, a space to begin building trust, understanding, and comfort. I refer to this as an initial assessment session, designed to help us explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it.
The first session focuses on getting to know you (the client), exploring background information, key experiences, and hopes for therapy. Together, we take time to gently understand what has been happening and begin to consider how we might work together to support growth, healing, and positive change moving forward.
For parents, the first session for a child or young person includes time to share relevant background information, daily routines, and goals for counselling, while ensuring that the young person’s voice and comfort remain central throughout the process.
There’s no rush or expectation to share everything at once, we go at your pace, allowing space for trust and understanding to build naturally.
I offer my initial assessment at the same rate as a regular session, as each moment shared in therapy holds value and the duration is the same as the other sessions thereafter. I offer blocks of 10 sessions because meaningful, lasting change usually unfolds gradually through a steady therapeutic relationship. Ten sessions give us the time and structure to build trust, deepen understanding, and work intentionally towards your goals, whether you’re an adult seeking greater emotional resilience or a parent supporting a child or young person.
By the end of this first session, you’ll have a clearer sense of how counselling works, what to expect, and what the next steps might look like, all within a warm, calm, and therapeutic environment designed to support you from the very beginning.
