About me and my therapy practice
Hello and a warm welcome! I’m Emma and I’m a fully qualified psychotherapist. I understand that life can be extremely challenging from time to time. I can offer you a supportive and compassionate space to talk through what is going on in your life and help you to navigate the ups and downs.
I understand that everyone has a unique experience in life and can face different challenges along the way, however I believe that everyone has the potential for growth and change, given a safe and supportive environment. Our experiences can contribute to our perceptions of self and the world around us today. Therapy can help you to take a step back and take a look at what is going on underneath the noise of everyday life and to help strengthen your inner resourcefulness.
Fundamentally, you are the expert in your own life. I will always encourage you to voice your own perspective on your experiences, get to know how you really feel about a situation, and support you in finding your way through to becoming more content with the relationship you have with yourself and others, going at a pace that is comfortable for you.
In a caring and non-judgemental way, I can help to develop your self-awareness and understanding, help find ways for you to feel a sense of acceptance and compassion for the more vulnerable parts of yourself, and encourage empowerment to help enable your choices. We can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, find ways to cope that make sense to you, and discover how you want to live your life going forward, based on your values and what’s most important to you.
Practice description
Coming to therapy isn’t always an easy step, it can often feel daunting opening up to someone you don’t know. One of my main aims in therapy is to build up a trusting therapeutic relationship with you. We can spend a bit of time getting to know each other at the beginning to help support you in feeling comfortable in the space before getting started.
I work in a collaborative and integrative way – which means I can incorporate aspects from different theoretical approaches into the way we work, and together we can figure out what works best for you depending on your preferences, your needs, and my training experience. My practice is built from a person-centred theoretical foundation – which means that your individuality is at the heart of the way I work.
I am committed to providing an anti-discriminatory practice and as a registered member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ I adhere to the Ethical Framework outlined on their website.
I have experience working in different settings (including charity, community, and low-cost services, as well as private practice), working with people dealing with an array of issues including anxiety, depression, low mood, low self-esteem, stress, anger management issues, relationship issues, and bereavement in particular.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute introduction session via telephone or online (Zoom) to get to know each other and see if we would get along working together. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.
Please feel free to email me on emmahetheringtontherapy@gmail.com to schedule an introductory session.
I work with adults aged 18+ in the UK.
I offer therapy via telephone or online (Zoom).
The fee for a 50-minute session is £50.
I provide therapy on a weekly basis and sessions can occur on the same day/time each week. Please get in touch to discuss alternative arrangements, as flexible days/times are available, however they are subject to availability.
I offer short-term and long-term therapy, which can be discussed in an introductory session, regarding your preferences. I will provide regular opportunities to check in and review therapy progress.
