About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome to Our Therapy Space.

My name is Nicola and I am a fully qualified and accredited counsellor and breathwork coach. I support individuals and families to explore past and current unmet needs in order to move forwards and make positive changes. I work holistically and adopt a bio-psycho-social approach, recognising and honouring the ways in which different aspects of identity intersect.

My core training is in Person-Centred Therapy. This means that no matter who you are or what you have done, I work from a place of acceptance. I believe that in order to feel safe enough to try out a new way of being, a person needs to feel accepted in their current state. I will never ask 'what's wrong' but I will ask 'what happened'. Over the years, I have developed a pluralistic approach. This means that as therapy progresses, I may draw on other therapeutic modalities I have experience in, such as Cognitive-Behavioural therapy, in order to best meet your needs.

For the last 2 years I have worked as an Oncology Counsellor within the NHS, providing support for individuals and their loved ones as they navigate a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Prior to this, I provided counselling for adults and children who experienced domestic abuse (as part of a service funded by Warwickshire County Council) and I also worked within the third sector providing counselling specifically for parents and caregivers.

Alongside my counselling diploma, I have a first-class honours degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Professional Writing. I am interested in how writing and story telling can be used effectively within a therapeutic setting and I encourage creativity in any form as part of the therapeutic process.

Practice description

Individual counselling:

I offer face-to-face, online and telephone counselling sessions for individuals aged 18 years and over.  I do not recommend a set number of sessions because everyone is different, but we will review progress together at regular intervals.

Psychosexual counselling:

I offer psychosexual therapy for a range of sexual functioning problems including unreliable erections, premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, pain and penetration problems including vaginisumus and anodyspareunia, low desire, and difficulties with orgasm. I welcome working with people of all genders and sexual orientations. Whilst I've been deemed competent to work with the above presentations, I am still training in this area and my work is closely supervised (outside of our time together). I am able to offer some discretionary concessionary rates for this type of work.

Breathwork coaching:

Breathwork is known for it's mental and physical health benefits. It can calm and soothe a dysregulated nervous system and it can also invigorate and energise. The breath is a simple yet powerful tool that is accessible to everyone but highly under-utilised in an effective sense. As a qualified Breathwork Coach I can integrate specific breathwork practices into our counselling sessions depending on your needs.

Physical health:

Physical health problems can have a huge impact on mental wellbeing particularly if there is uncertainty about the future. Other common difficulties can include a loss of identity, difficulty adapting to a different way of living, body image issues and fear of social judgement. I am experienced in working with a range of physical health conditions and have extensive experience of working with people who have a cancer diagnosis.

I am an accredited member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ,  registered with the ICO, enhanced DBS checked and fully insured. I am a student member of the College of Sex and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) .
