About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Emma, a warm and collaborative psychotherapist, bereavement counsellor and founder of ‘Counselling for Creatives'. I work mainly (but not exclusively) with creative people. Many work in the arts or creative industries, but I am here for anyone who wants to understand themselves deeply, and to work towards leading a fulfilling and meaningful life.
My purpose is to provide you with a safe and non-judgemental space to explore the specific challenges of your life less ordinary, and to help you thrive on your chosen creative path.
I specialise in helping with:
Identity
Meaning and purpose
Feeling stuck
Low self esteem and self worth
Existential issues and personal philosophy
Imposter syndrome
Perfectionism
Procrastination
Rejection
Stress and burnout
Life transitions
Bereavement
Loss
Spirituality
Relationships
Trauma
Stigma and shame
I am trained as an integrative and person-centred therapist which simply means, I will listen deeply to what you want and need, we will aim to build a supportive therapeutic relationship together and then collaborate on what approach works best for you. It will be an open and flexible process.
Practice description
I am a qualified and experienced therapist with a MA/PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London.
Our therapeutic relationship is the key to good therapy for you, so I think it’s important for you to know a bit about me to decide whether I might be the right fit for you. Before I qualified as a therapist, I worked in the music industry in London for 15 years. I am also a trained actor and have been acting for over 20 years. It is not too far removed from therapy - empathy for the depths of the human character. As a working creative, I know what it is to struggle with identity and to have an alternative lifestyle that society can stereotype and stigmatise, and that can be emotionally, mentally and often financially challenging.
I have experience of working with adults of all ages but increasingly, I am working with Gen Z and Millennials searching for their path, as well as older adults of retirement age, dealing with all forms of loss and searching for rich and purposeful lives outside of the working norm.
I am an ally to anyone who feels unseen and unheard. I want you to know that your voice and your intersectionality matters.
I have worked for You and Me Counselling centre for young people and their families, as a bereavement counsellor for St Francis Hospice and as a community navigator for MIND, helping those with managed mental illness to engage with their communities.
My first session
After some initial information from me, this session is open for you to talk about anything that you need to, and I will follow your lead to understand where you’re at and what’s going on for you.
It is also an opportunity for you to decide if I am the right fit for you. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. After the session, you can think about if you would like to continue. If not, I’ll do what I can to find someone more suited to your needs.
