About me and my therapy practice

My practice is grounded in the humanistic tradition, and I bring an integrative style shaped by nearly 20 years working in education, counselling, and emotional wellbeing.

If you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed or suffering with the challenges that low mood presents then you might be looking for a space to feel heard, supported and understood. If that sounds like you, please feel free to get in touch and we can see if I’m the right fit for you.

I am a trauma-informed, person-centered therapist – which means I’ll meet you with warmth, compassion and without judgement. You’re the expert in your own life, and I’ll work alongside you, offering reflections, insight and tools where it feels helpful. Therapy can be a space to explore what’s been difficult, reconnect with yourself and grow your confidence.

My Specialism:

I have a particular interest in working with people who have experienced childhood trauma or difficulties in their family relationships, both past and present, that is impacting their life now. I have qualified as a specialist grief counsellor and can walk alongside you through the complexities of grief and the ways that loss can show up in our lives. Furthermore, having worked for 17 years as a secondary teacher, SEN teacher, Further Education wellbeing coordinator and mental health specialist within universities; I can offer insight and guidance to both young people and their families as I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by young people, especially those with neurodivergence, SEN, or those that have been marginalized within their school environment through bullying or systems that are not supportive of their wellbeing.

Practice description

Healing from childhood experiences:

Some children grow up in environments that didn’t fully meet their needs. As adults, we may need to reassess childhood rules and family dynamics that still cause pain. With both professional experience and personal insight, I understand how difficult it can be to open up about these parts of ourselves. Together, we can create a space to explore these experiences and find ways to begin to heal them; moving forwards with more understanding of ourselves and the impact these experiences may have had on our life.

Body positivity and self worth:

Our bodies can create much unrest for us, part of my work is to promote body positivity that is about holistic wellbeing and celebrating beauty in diversity. Feelings about our bodies can be complex and deep rooted. Together we will unpick the difficult ideals given to us by the culture and relationships that we are immersed in - and ultimately - enhance feelings of self-worth and belief in ourselves as being enough as we are.

Grief and loss:

Grief can be present in many forms - whether it’s life transitions such as career changes, retirement, children leaving home; or the death of a loved one or a beloved pet; or more ambiguous loss such as a family member with dementia - where there is a changing relationship due to illness, or our own illness - If you need a space to be still when grief can make everything turbulent, distant and frightening - we can hold that in our sessions together.

Supporting young people and families:

I have extensive experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs and supporting their family members as they move through challenging systems alongside their children. I appreciate the complexities and difficulties that teenagers experience as they navigate the school system and the anxieties that this can create for both them and their caregivers.
