About me and my therapy practice
With a lifetime of experience and as a Pluralistic Psychotherapist trained in a wide range of approaches with 30 years of experience supporting people in a range of specialist mental health roles, I offer a warm, compassionate space with you at the heart. I have worked in the NHS and had my own registered mental health charity which was voted charity of the year. I’ve held dual roles as a specialist NHS mental health therapist and as a Specialist Eating Disorders therapist, Specialist Addictions therapist and a specialist mental health occupational therapist. I am trauma informed and a specialist in Neurodiversity working with people with autism, ADHD and trained in neuro divergent counselling. I am also trained and experienced in giving therapy to people who have experienced childhood abuse, domestic abuse and relational issues.
I will adapt therapy to meet your needs working in a person centred way drawing on a range of approaches including psychodynamic, solution focussed, and cognitive behavioural approaches with psychoeducational strategies. What is found in clinical studies to be the most important factor in counselling is the relationship more than a specific approach used. I bring a lifetime of understanding which began very young and is the basis of my work. I bring warmth, empathy and a non-judgemental approach. My counselling work has been published nationally as examples of excellence in practice and my clinical work has been used nationally as examples of clinical excellence. Counselling offers you the space, confidentiality and time you need to make positive changes in how you feel, act and navigate the world. What matters is you, together we can find ways to make life feel better, for you to feel empowered and to make choices from a place of awareness. I offer a safe space to support you gain new perspectives and insights and make life altering change.
Practice description
I'm primarily a person centred psychotherapist who puts you at the heart of all our work together. I take a holistic approach, considering all aspects which you feel are important to you, or which have impacted upon you. I believe you are the expert on yourself. I combine this belief while applying a range of psychological approaches and methods as appropriate, this together with a lifetime of understanding through lived experience, and the belief that knowledge is power, enables the gaining of insight over ourselves which acts to help us make conscious choices. These insights, combined with sharing what has helped others, together with your unique strengths and potential, enables us to work together in a safe, trusting relationship in order to support you to make the changes you want.
I have decades of experience and have a foundation as a therapist within the humanistic person centred approach. I have also attended numerous training courses in compassion therapy, social work attachment based therapy, AMBIT training, all NHS mandatory and specialist mental health training, third sector training, Local Authority Counselling training for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and I also spent 4 years doing a Masters studying a wide range of psychological approaches which I will draw upon to meet your unique needs. I was also a Specialist Mental Health Occupational Therapist and the Specialist in Eating Disorders and Addictions, as well as the Vocational Rehabilitation Lead. I have developed and led mental health services. The approaches applied as appropriate may include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, solution focussed approaches, internal family systems, compassion therapy or a range of approaches tailored to meet your individual needs.
I offer a warm, non-judgmental, safe space for our work together, which is led by you. My work is compassion led and collaborative, working alongside you to build resilience, self awareness and supporting you to make positive change.
