About me and my therapy practice
Psychotherapy (as i understand it) is the opportunity to explore, and eventually accept yourself fully – to deepen your understanding of yourself, your responses, and your relationship with the people and the world around you. A process of awareness that can help you learn and heal from the experiences and relationships in your past.
I had an unusual upbringing with very 'alternative' parents (hence the name) which meant that I was exposed to many weird and wonderful people, ideas and experiences from an early age. This came with its ups and downs, but fundamentally it has helped me develop a deep understanding of what it means to be human, and the joy and pain (and everything in between) that it brings.
My experience includes: Addiction, PTSD and CPTSD, domestic violence, emotional abuse and coercion, bereavement and loss, depression, low self-esteem, kink aware, LGBT, family enmeshment, emotional numbness, loss of meaning, generational trauma, suicidal ideation, anxiety and panic attacks, relationship issues, life changes, stress, abandonment, menopause, parenthood, post natal depression, people pleasing.
Practice description
I work integratively, drawing upon different forms of therapy including Humanistic, Existential, Attachment Theory and Psychodynamic, tailoring the work to make sense of your individual story. Underpinned by a wholehearted, honest and compassionate approach.
I also encourage a holistic view, taking into account your lifestyle in a broader sense, how you connect to and treat your body for example. Where you might be holding tension or stress and ways we can address that. I believe its all connected.

About me and my therapy practice
Recognising the importance of fit between therapist and client is crucial. Therapy is most effective when there's a strong therapeutic alliance and rapport between the client and therapist. It's okay to acknowledge when a particular therapist isn't the right fit and to seek out someone who better meets your needs.
This will be an opportunity for you to sit with a trained therapist and work out what you need from therapy, what type of modality might suit your particular journey and how to get the most out of an intro call.
Embarking on therapy is an investment, not only in yourself but in money, time and emotional energy.
I understand how daunting and frustrating it can feel to trawl through all the many therapists on the directories, when often we don't really have a clear understanding of what we need or which approach/modality will suit our needs. By having a clearer understanding of the various therapeutic modalities and how they align with your specific concerns and goals, you can make more informed decisions when selecting a therapist.
We can explore your therapy needs, discuss different therapeutic modalities, and develop strategies for making the most out of your introductory calls with potential therapists.
I am entirely independent and wont make recommendations on any particular therapist.
My service includes a 1 hour session, an assessment of your needs and a written report/summary for you to reference when you are seeking a therapist.
Practice description
Here's the general approach for a session:
Understanding Your Needs: Let's start by discussing your reasons for seeking therapy and what you hope to achieve. This could involve exploring any specific challenges you're facing, your goals for therapy, and any preferences or concerns you have regarding the therapeutic process.
Exploring Different Modalities: We'll delve into the various therapeutic modalities available, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, person-centered therapy, etc. I'll explain the principles and techniques behind each approach and how they might align with your needs and preferences. This may involve considering factors such as your personality, communication style, past experiences with therapy, and the nature of the issues you're facing.
Preparing for Introductory Calls: We'll discuss strategies for making the most of your initial calls with potential therapists. This could include identifying key questions to ask, clarifying logistical details (e.g., fees, availability, location), and assessing how comfortable you feel with the therapist's approach and demeanour.
Written Report/Summary: Following our session, I'll provide you with a written report or summary outlining our discussion, including recommendations for therapeutic modalities that may suit your needs and tips for selecting a therapist. This document will serve as a reference guide as you continue your search for the right therapist.
