Availability

I am easy to get to; I have a comfortable room in Central Eastleigh within a few minutes’ drive from both the M27 and the M3 and a few minute walk from the bus and train stations, and close to local parking.

I offer short term solution focus counselling using CBT and other tools, as well as longer term counselling. I often find that exploring the past can bring understanding to current issues, behaviors, relationships and be the first step in moving forward.

I work with adults, individuals and couples. I predominately work in person, but I also work online via Microsoft Teams and offer telephone counselling.

Therapy is usually weekly, but I understand this does not work for everyone, whether that be timewise or financially, therefore fortnightly is also an option.

I work weekdays and evenings and aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate those working shifts or from home with varying meeting times.

Please contact me or visit my website for further information. www.sandrahdcounselling.co.uk

About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults only and specialise in helping people with anxiety, low self-esteem and relationships issues. I often find that these go hand in hand and that there are usually underlying issues such as stress, depression, grief or childhood trauma. I am also passionate about supporting neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ individuals and couples.

You are an individual with unique experiences and issues; therefore, your counselling will be tailored to you, assisting you in exploring and understanding your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. I will help you find new ways to solve problems, grow in confidence and develop more meaningful relationships with yourself and others.

I work with adults only; individuals, couples and families. I offer both short term solution focused therapy, using CBT and other tools and longer-term more person-centred therapy. I have a vast array of tools and techniques for all manner of issues that have proven to be incredibly beneficial in repairing and healing the lives of those I have worked with.

At its heart, therapy is about forming a relationship, working with a person you can both trust and build a rapport which is vital. I would also say it is probably the most important element of successful therapy, so I offer a complimentary 15/20 minute telephone/online introduction to explore your needs and for you to be sure you feel comfortable talking to me.

My first session

Introductory call (telephone or online)

The purpose of this call is for us to get to know each other a little. We can briefly discuss what brings you to counselling and I will suggest an approach for working together. Please note: this is not a counselling session.

Should you wish to continue we book the first session. It’s important to find the right counsellor for you and if we decide you would be better served with an alternative professional, I can provide recommendations or signposting.

Your first session

I will email you a copy of the working agreement and the client take on form in advance of this session.

The take on form is information I am required to collect to keep you safe and includes, name, address, preferred method of contact, GP details, and medications.

We go through the admin at the start of this session. This includes checking I have the intake form completed in full and signing our working agreement.

To know how best to help you, I need to understand more about you and your current issues, and what you would like to gain from our time together. This is discussed and together we will decide on the best approach for our work. This sometimes takes the whole session but if it doesn’t, we start work.

Subsequent sessions

The approach taken and how we work together will be decided during your first session. This will be unique to you and your individual needs.

About me and my therapy practice

I provide clinical supervision for counsellors and trainee counsellors.

My approach is primarily relational, which offers respect for you and your client group, a safe space to cry, laugh, get angry and rejuvenate, as a normal response to the emotional stresses of working with people in difficult situations, and congruence to supportively challenge that practice where necessary.

I believe that supervision needs to be normative, informative and restorative, and work mainly with the seven eyed and the cyclical models of supervision.

Practice description

I believe that Supervision is a collaborative process of support and learning. It is protected time and space for the supervisee (practitioner) to reflect on their practice, develop their competence, skills, knowledge, and creativity within the supervisory relationship (alliance), enabling them to provide a safe and ethical service to clients, whist continuously developing themselves and their practice.

The purpose of supervision is to help and support the supervisee to:

  • monitor the needs of their clients
  • monitor and improve the effectiveness (quality) of their work
  • reflect on their work, in order to develop their knowledge, skills and competence
  • maintain ethical and professional standards

  • As well as to provide support and restoration to help the supervisee:
  • manage the psychological impact of their work on their own well-being
  • deal with a personal crisis that may be impacting on their work
  • develop effective self-care strategies and build resilience.
