About me and my therapy practice
I'm an integrative counsellor whose foundation is in Person Centered Therapy. So I practice in a non-judgemental way using the core conditions of Empathy, congruence (genuineness) and unconditional positive regard (UPR).
I offer a free 20 minute phone or online assessment where we can discuss what the presentation and the desired goal of our sessions are. I request that we contract for 6 sessions and then switch to a rolling contract where you (the client) can give a weeks notice if you wish to end.
I like to draw on other modalities such as CBT, solution focused therapy and psychoanalysis, as I'm aware that everyone presents differently, and like to adapt my practice to suit your needs.
I practice out of a cabin in my back garden within an idyllic setting or online via Microsoft Teams both are confidential settings.
As my foundation is in person centred therapy I encourage you (the client) to lead the session, and avoid being directive whilst we establish a relationship within the sessions.
Practice description
I have been practicing counselling since 2020 as an integrative counsellor for companies/charities such as Herne Bay Counselling Service, East Kent College as well as Children and Young person counselling service for the NHS, and have helped an age range from 5 years to 70 years old.
I've helped client's with presenting issues such as: low self-esteem, stress, depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief, suicidal ideation and intent, feeling stuck, feeling overwhelmed. As well as also supporting neuro-diverse client's who are struggling with Autism (ASD/ASC) or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
I believe life is better when you make a positive connection with someone to share your problems with, who'll listen in a non-judgemental way, who you can be your true self with, who can help you readdress the balance in your life.
At times I may introduce certain techniques to help you destress in the moment, ground yourself, challenge your unhelpful thinking patterns or see things from a different perspective.
I believe the key for counselling to be successful is that the relationship needs to be balanced between the counsellor and client and demonstrate this using the core conditions of Empathy, genuineness and UPR.
My first session
In the first session we will read through the counselling agreement to establish the boundaries to our relationship, such as my limitations to confidentiality if the client acknowledges harm to them-self, from someone else or if they intent harm to someone else.
Illegal activity they may disclose that I would need to inform others of.
I like to establish the client's experience, understanding and expectation of counseling are, in order for them to understand that as there is equality to our relationship, that I'm not here to fix, but to help work with them bring balance back to their life.
