Features

Availability

I currently have limited availability for therapy sessions. My usual workdays are Friday AM/PM and on a Saturday morning. I work both in person and online recognising the individual preferences that both options offer.

About me and my therapy practice

I have helped adult women and men of all ages and backgrounds to work through complex issues and life problems. I work compassionately, empathically, flexibly and responsively to support you based on your needs and what is important to you.

Being able to talk to an experienced counsellor/therapist can help develop new meaning and understanding of your issues whether they are current or historic, in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space. Counselling is intended to create a positive change as a process of self-awareness, understanding and personal growth.

Aside from my private work I also work part-time for the NHS in a counselling and coordinator role, assessing all clients referred to the service, and recruiting, training and mentoring trainee and qualified volunteer counsellors.

The following list is an example and is not limited to these areas:

• Anxiety and/or depression

• Family/relationship issues

• Trauma and the impact of childhood problems during adulthood

• Bereavement

• Bereavement by suicide

• Cancer related difficulties - including the long term effect of cancer treatment classed as post-cancer support

• Different life stages - e.g. midlife and ageing

• Loss (e.g. retirement; job-loss; health)

• Self-harm and suicidal thoughts

• General counselling

• Self-esteem and confidence

• Bullying

• Stress

My background, training and experience:

I qualified as a counsellor with an MA in Clinical Counselling after completing a degree (BSc) in Psychology and Counselling that is 6 years in training in addition to having worked within the University sector supporting young adults in a pastoral role.

Availability

I currently have space for counsellors/therapist looking for a supervisor. I normally have availability on a Friday AM/PM and on a Saturday morning, although I can be flexible for supervision.

I am a qualified person-centred counsellor registered with the Íø±¬ÃÅ offering supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors working with adults.

About me and my therapy practice

I work as a counsellor/clinical assessor/service coordinator in the NHS for a cancer and bereavement service that offers time-limited person-centred counselling. I recruit, train, induct, and mentor trainee counsellors on placement and qualified volunteer counsellors. Observing trainee counsellors development and growth during their placement is one of the privileges of this work.

Understanding the challenges of finding paid employment as a newly qualified counsellor I developed proposals to train students finishing their placement giving them additional skills to improve their employability potential post qualification.

In practice I work with adult clients, often working with the most complex presenting issues, for example and not limited to; bereavement by suicide, child loss, cancer diagnosis and treatment, the long term effects of cancer treatment, relationship problems with individual clients, trauma, anxiety and depression.

My Background:

Before training as a counsellor I worked at a University in a pastoral role before gaining a degree in Psychology and Counselling, followed by a Masters in Clinical Counselling. I have a special interest in research after completing two research projects based on midlife women's experiences of the menopause and the challenges of family relationships.

Practice description

As a practitioner my therapy work is strongly informed by the person-centred model, although I often work from an integrative perspective, incorporating additional training and skills acquired through ongoing CPD.

What you can expect from me as a supervisor?

My work is underpinned by the framework of the Seven-eyed process model of supervision.

That I would work collaboratively with you to help you to develop and thrive in your practice and support you in your clinical work, I will aim to:

• Support you by maintaining an ethically mindful and reflective practice - whilst adhering to the Íø±¬ÃÅ Ethical Framework

• Support you to work safely when considering risk and safeguarding concerns

• Support your development by helping you to plan CPD and training based on your goals and specialism/s

• Support through setting and managing boundaries

• Promote self-care and self-compassion

• Support you with challenges in your practice

• To continuously focus on what you need from me as a supervisor

I offer a reduced supervision fee for students during placement and training. I accept requests for supervision from students studying toward a minimum level 4 diploma on a Íø±¬ÃÅ registered or accredited course.

My first session

Do contact me to arrange a no obligation/commitment free chat where we can decide if we could be a good match.

The first session is the beginning of developing a working alliance and to get to know each other. It would also be an opportunity for me to gain an understanding of your current status as a therapist, your current caseload and an understanding of the support you need.
