About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and experienced therapist with over five years in the mental health sector, having worked in NHS GP surgeries, community organisations, private practice, and as manager of a counselling service where I supported clients and trained new therapists. These roles have given me a broad understanding of the challenges people face and the different ways therapy can be most effective.
I often work with men who feel stuck in relationships, work, or life direction, and with those struggling with substance use or other coping strategies that no longer feel helpful. My approach is straightforward, supportive, and grounded in empathy, offering a safe and confidential space where you don’t have to carry things alone.
Drawing on person-centred, existential, and CBT approaches, I tailor therapy to your circumstances, goals, and pace. Together, we’ll make sense of your experiences, identify what holds you back, and find new ways forward that build clarity, resilience, and confidence for a more rewarding life.
Practice description
You don’t have to carry everything on your own. Therapy is a confidential space where you can be yourself and speak openly, without judgement. Many of the people I work with feel stuck and can be experiencing any of stress, anxiety and low mood. Others come with a more general sense that life feels flat or unfulfilling. Whatever your situation, therapy can help you make sense of what’s going on and find a way forward.
My way of working is open, collaborative, and sometimes challenging. If you’re looking for a therapist who simply nods along, I’m probably not the right fit.
I’ll listen closely, but I’ll also ask the kinds of questions that nudge you to think differently. If I notice you sidestepping something important, I’ll name it — gently, but honestly. I see therapy as a space where you feel safe and supported, but also where movement and change are possible.
Sometimes that means sitting with silence; other times it means using humour to lighten the weight of what you’re carrying. However we work, the focus is on what you need. This is your space, and I’ll walk alongside you without judgement or pretence — real conversations and support that helps you move forward.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute phone call so you get a chance to talk to me and ask any questions before deciding whether to book an initial session.
Our first session lasts 50 minutes and gives you the chance to experience what it’s like working together. There’s no obligation to continue afterwards — the decision to move into ongoing therapy is entirely yours.
In this session, we’ll talk about what’s happening in your life right now, as well as the broader experiences that have brought you to seek support. It’s an opportunity to explore what you’d like from therapy and where you hope to get to.
Some people come with a clear issue they want to focus on, while others arrive with a general sense that something isn’t working. Both are completely valid starting points. You don’t need to have all the answers before beginning therapy — part of our work can be discovering together what feels most important.
