About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist who has worked with clients suffering with a wide range of emotional difficulties. Maybe you are functioning day to day in a way which can appear to others as if you’re ok (and maybe some of the time you do feel ok) but I also understand that life can feel hard when things don't feel right. If this is something you can relate to, if how you feel is really impacting your ability to live the life you want to live, then therapy could be really valuable for you.
My approach is informed by attachment and developmental theory, Gestalt and personality adaptation theory. Ultimately I feel that it is the quality of a therapeutic relationship which can make all the difference. It can offer a space where you feel both supported and challenged.
Through weekly face to face (or online) sessions I will work with you to:
Better understand what feels so difficult for you.
Identify and gain a deeper awareness of your patterns and behaviour.
Gain valuable insight into the ways you feel in relationships.
Broaden the range of emotions and feelings you can recognise and allow for yourself.
Help discover your own inner resources.
You might have thought about these things on your own but the crucial difference in therapy is that you are with somebody who will really listen to you and pay attention to what you’re experiencing. A therapy relationship can bring surprising new insights, feelings and information. All this can come together to help you feel differently about yourself. When this happens it can lead to a powerfully different way of approaching problems and what feels so difficult in life.
Practice description
My clients usually choose to work with me on an open ended basis and I do feel that this allows the necessary time it can take to properly explore and understand the multiple factors which can be at play in our life's challenges.
My hope is that you can bring an openness to reflecting on yourself (uncertainty and not knowing is fine). We work collaboratively to uncover all aspects of your experience and the ways forward. For this reason therapy can take time and it's a process which involves us both.
I also feel it's important to make time for regular check in sessions to find out how you feel therapy is going and that we are making time to talk about what matters to you.
My first session
I offer a discounted initial session together during which I seek to find out more about what brings you to therapy at this time, as well as well as what your hopes are for therapy (and from your therapist). In turn, I'll aim to be as open as possible about how I work and how I see therapy. This will help us both decide whether we are a good fit for each other and want to continue to work together.
