About me and my therapy practice
Children's counselling
I am an experienced children's Person-Centred Counsellor and a member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ with over 1000 clinical hours of working with children. Whilst most of my experience has been in based working in schools, I now offer private sessions in a fully equipped children's therapy room. I am passionate about children's mental health, and helping them process their emotions that are so often suppressed, misunderstood or dismissed.
After traumatic life events, for example; bereavement, difficult relationships, illnesses, caring, bullying, relocating, attending school, to name a few - children's feelings can be forgotten about. They carry them not wanting to add to anyone's stress often unaware that these emotions can lead to anxiety, anger or difficult behaviour.
I offer art, play, creativity, sand tray, and talking therapies in a dedicated therapy room.
I enjoy working with children who are neuro-divergent and enjoy watching them grow in an environment where they are completely accepted and free to be themselves.
Practice description
Childrens counselling
I am a warm and empathic person, and love connecting with children and working with them therapeutically. I work in a child- centered way which is empowering for children.
Your child may choose to communicate with words, or through story-telling, metaphor, play, or creativity, as some children find words difficult to access when needing to process uncomfortable emotions. Sand tray work is a powerful tool to explore children's lived experiences.
This way of working allows the child an opportunity to explore and process their stuck or difficult feelings in a way they choose with someone alongside them.
I work in a gentle and non-judgmental way, coming alongside them to help unlock their difficult feelings/experiences, allowing the child to work intuitively and use the therapy space in a way that feels most comfortable for them. This helps them to find the language to untangle their thoughts and feelings and to make sense of their lived experiences.
My first session
Childrens counselling
The first session will be with the main carers/parents to discuss the referral and why the child is coming to therapy now. We will complete referral forms and discuss concerns and the therapeutic agreement.
This can be done over the phone but a face-to-face meeting in the therapy room is recommended. This will be approximately £50 depending on the length of the meeting.
The room is a dedicated therapeutic space, and there is room outside for parking up and waiting. There is also easy access to fields for a walk whilst your child is with me if required.
The first session with the child will be a getting to know you session and chatting gently about their expectations and goals, and looking at how we behave in the therapy room. Parents can stay if appropriate.
