Therapist - Thame

Thame OX9
07861 685506
Sessions from £55.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available
  • Available for home visits
  • Concessionary rates

Availability

The first session can feel overwhelming as you may not be sure what to expect.  However, it takes courage to arrange a first appointment and clients often say that this is the 'hardest part' - beginning therapy.

There is no right/wrong as to how a therapy session ought to be, nor is there any pressure to book further sessions.

I am offering therapeutic support to you, whereby we will work together at your own pace and if you choose to, we can then arrange dates/times which suit both of us.

Sessions can be arranged weekly/fortnightly - depending on your preference.  There is never a requirement to pay for multiple sessions up front, payment is kindly required in advance of the session which follows the current one.  Pencilling dates in our diaries ensure that we are able to arrange to meet on a regular basis at a time which suits you.

At the moment - I have no personal holidays planned and have some availability, so please feel free to reach out to me.

Please feel free to let me know whether you would like to like to meet via zoom online or arrange a telephone call (£55 for the 50 minute session)

Alternatively, we could use a room at The Practice Clinic in Thame (which is usually on a Monday or Friday morning). The fee for this will be £75, due to the cost of administration/booking the room.

If you are a student, I understand that finances can be an issue and can potentially offer a concessionary reduced fee if we are meeting via zoom/telephone (please feel free to mention this to me).

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name is Louise and I work as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist in Thame.    We all have difficulties in life and I am here for you to reach out to when you feel that you need some support.  You may have 'big things' going on or a number of 'smaller things' which can build up and affect how we think and feel, leading to feelings of anxiety; overwhelm; depression and low mood.   Struggling psychologically can impact our body physically (e.g. with headaches; stomach pains/IBS) and also affect our sleeping patterns.

Personally and professionally, I recognise the value of having a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings, without feeling judged.  Sometimes, 'offloading' what is going on for you can feel like a weight has been lifted and enables you to gain clarity and understanding regarding why you feel the way you do.

What are the benefits of starting counselling sessions with me?

I am an accredited Íø±¬ÃÅ Counsellor/Psychotherapist and enjoy my role  because I can adopt my integrative approach to suit you, rather than follow a set plan/format.

I am person centred in the sense that sessions are led by you and whatever you wish to bring.  Our sessions together provide well deserved time for YOU!

Furthermore, I have Adlerian training which means that we can explore some of your early memories, family life, and dreams.  This provides us with insight so that you can gain a greater understanding of yourself and is particularly helpful if you are feeling 'stuck'.

Additional Training courses undertaken include a Íø±¬ÃÅ aligned Online and Telephone Counselling course and the following:

Advanced CBT Diploma; Anxiety and Aggression Management Practitioner Diploma; Grief and Bereavement Counselling Diploma; Couples and Family Therapy Diploma; Dealing with Depression Diploma; Eating Disorder Awareness Diploma; PND.

Practice description

How do I work?

I work as an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist which means that I utilise different techniques when working alongside you depending on what you decide to bring to the session (client centred).

Feeling heard and listened to is really important as this encourages exploration of thoughts and feelings. I provide you with compassion and understanding in a safe, confidential space.

Adlerian training is advantageous as we can explore your family of origin; early memories and dreams.  They often provides insight into yourself and how you view the world. Interpretations are often formed from a young age and this is a time where our sense of belonging and significance is formed. Understanding ourselves better and identifying behaviour patterns can be insightful and useful...as this provides the opportunity to change (if we are feeling 'stuck').

It may be that some CBT strategies could be useful for you, which is why my interest led me to undertake further training.

What do I mean when I say I adopt a holistic approach?

I recognise that we are all unique individuals and therefore, following a 'tick box' approach is not effective.

Working holistically means that I have an awareness that different aspects of our lives contribute to how we feel about ourselves and others.  These aspects are separate but intertwined, for example, the mind and body influence one another and my work as a Reflexologist demonstrates this.

I come from a Medical background and have also attained a Psychology Degree, therefore, I recognise the physical and psychological components are both important in different ways.

What issues do I work with?

Anxiety; Stress; Self esteem; Depression/low mood; Bereavement/Loss; Disordered Eating; Family issues (this is by no means an exhaustive list).

Experience as a Midwife and Health Visitor enable me to support clients who are trying to conceive; have had difficult pregnancies; experienced birth trauma; 'baby blues' or postnatal depression.

My first session

Our first session together is an opportunity to find out what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together to overcome your perceived difficulties.

It may be that a 'one off' session is all that you would like, or it may be that a number of sessions are agreed between us and then we review how you are experiencing therapy and how you would like to progress.

There is no right/wrong way to have counselling, it is about what works best for you as an individual.

If you would like to have an initial telephone call or a brief zoom meeting that can be arranged.

This is free of charge whereby I can answer any questions you may have about how I work.

Alternatively, you are welcome to book a full 50 minute session, which can be a ‘one off’ (no obligation to continue) or we can book a number of appointments in advance at a time which works for us both.

The time agreed for the next session is reserved in my diary for 48 hours and following the fee kindly being transferred via BACS, our appointment is confirmed and a zoom link will be sent through to you.

If payment has not been kindly received 24 hours before the session, I will assume that the appointment is not going ahead and therefore will offer this time to any other interested client.

Alternatively, we can meet for a face to face appointment at The Practice Clinic in Thame (usually on a Monday or Friday and payment is kindly required at the time of the session).

The time agreed for the next session is reserved in my diary for 48 hours, although only following receipt of the fee via BACS, will your appointment be guaranteed. A zoom link will then be sent through to you.

If payment has not been kindly received 24 hours before the session, I will assume that the appointment is not going ahead and therefore will offer this time to any other interested client.

Alternatively, we can meet for a face to face appointment at The Practice Clinic in Thame (usually on a Monday or Friday).
