About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with many years of clinical experience, as well as a trained medical doctor. My background allows me to offer a holistic and informed approach to mental health care.
My therapeutic style is relational-integrative, meaning I place the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the process. I believe meaningful change begins when we feel truly seen, heard, and supported. I draw on a range of evidence-based models—tailoring my approach to each client’s unique personality, life context, and needs. Some of the approaches I integrate include Person-Centred Therapy, Relational Therapy, CBT, DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), and Transactional Analysis.
Before becoming a psychotherapist, I trained and worked as a medical doctor in surgery, internal medicine, and obstetrics & gynaecology. My deep interest in mental health eventually led me to retrain as a psychotherapist, a path I find deeply fulfilling. Alongside clinical work, I hold positions as a university lecturer and counsellor in higher education, and I continue to enjoy teaching trainee therapists at various levels, including MSc students.
Having lived in Germany, the USA, Iceland, and the Netherlands, I bring an international perspective and appreciation for cultural diversity into my work. As a mother of four, I have a strong interest in supporting young people and families, helping them navigate challenges and build emotional resilience.
I work with both adolescents and adults, and I aim to create a space that is warm, respectful, and safe, where clients feel empowered to grow, heal, and move toward their full potential.
The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.
Practice description
Currently, I offer therapy sessions online only, or via telephone.
The length of therapy can be short-term or longer term, depending on the client’s needs.
My first session
Our first session will be an opportunity to get to know each other and decide if we would like to work together. I will be happy to explain my way of working, answer any questions you might have, and I will ask you about your situation and what brings you to therapy. Please be assured that I will use empathy, go at your pace and be sensitive about what you are willing to share.
