About me and my therapy practice
the approach I take is integrative, which means I bring together techniques and theories from different modes of therapy. Some of the therapeutic ideas I regularly draw from include:
- Psychodynamic, which probes the past and explores unconscious relationships.
- Humanistic, which is rooted in the present and emphasises the importance of being your true self to lead a fulfilling life.
- Existential, which looks philosophically at humanity, celebrating our capacity to change whilst acknowledging our natural limitations.
With this integrative style, I work to tailor my therapy to the needs of each individual client. No two people are the same, and I believe that working with each person should be primarily about them, creating a collaborative and empathetic space in which the client can grow.
A Personal Note:
I have always been a passionate, conscientious, loyal person, but I wasn't always good at being authentic in relationships. I was self-conscious in my interactions with others, trying to display perfection, whether that was around how I looked or how clever or moral I wanted to seem. However, this meant that many of the important relationships in my life were hollow, while I craved deep connection and a perfection that didn't exist. It left me feeling like I wasn't good enough. With lots of therapy and subsequent training, I broke down my wounds, barriers and behaviours and began to feel okay not being perfect. In fact it was this part of myself – my imperfections and vulnerabilities – where I saw beauty and connection really happened. It is this work that I am really passionate about in the therapy room and where my expertise really lies. I work with my clients exploring behaviours and belief systems, and how they manifest. Whether that is a feeling of anxiety, relationship issues, or a darkness they feel they cant get away from; together, we work to explore it, unravel it and understand it. This brings personal clarity and agency, and through those, lasting change.
Practice description
My sessions are 50 minutes in length and are open, collaborative and conversational. the therapeutic relationship is very important to me and I will endeavour to meet you where you are with both your needs, aims and create a space that feels safe and open. In my practice, I aim to provide a time and a place entirely focused on you in a way that is conducive to growth and, importantly, self-care. Together, through exploration on what you bring, we can look at why you may be struggling, and I can equip you with the tools to deal with behaviours or thoughts that aren’t so helpful. I work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds with a wide range of needs. I firmly believe that therapy isn’t just for people with ‘issues’ – you don’t need to have identified a specific concern before you look to benefit from therapy. I will also intermittently provide a review in which we can openly talk about how you're finding the sessions what works for you, what you wish you had more of etc. This way, we can tailor the sessions to your needs and give you the best possible experience working together to do so.
