About me and my therapy practice

I am a warm and down to earth professional with a lot of experience helping people, often men, who have got stuck or who are feeling lost or distressed. I can support your recovery from childhood trauma, anxiety, depression and many other issues.

I believe that many of the difficulties we encounter in life are related to problems in our interpersonal relationships, past or present. This might be in the family, with a partner, or at work. Sometimes, it's our relationship with ourselves which becomes difficult. My training in the relational approach to counselling and psychotherapy means that I have the skills to support my clients to resolve these issues.

I work by creating a therapeutic relationship with you. Within this relationship, we address whatever difficulties you are experiencing. I bring a calm and reassuring presence within which you can feel safe, heard and understood.

Practice description

I am a qualified, experienced psychotherapist/counsellor. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction). I also have a BA Honours degree in Philosophy. My experience includes work for Leeds Mind, Leeds City College, Barca and Community Links.

I combine elements of different therapeutic approaches. For example, I bring strategies to help address problems that are here and now, typical of cognitive behavioural therapy. I also provide reflective space to explore and understand where or how these difficulties might have started. I adapt my approach to meet the needs of each individual person.

I support people with many different issues, including anxiety, depression, childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences, relationship problems, issues around neurodiversity, alcohol and substance abuse, difficulties with work, self esteem.

Most recently I have been working as a trauma focused counsellor in an NHS setting, working with adults who have had adverse childhood experiences.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (Íø±¬ÃÅ), I abide by the Íø±¬ÃÅ Ethical Framework and receive monthly clinical supervision.

My first session

During our first session I will ask you about your reasons for seeking help. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask me about any aspect of my practice, my experience, and my work. I offer a free initial online or telephone session of up to 30 minutes to help you to decide if you feel I am someone you can work with. Then, if you would like to go ahead, we will agree a plan from there.
