About me and my therapy practice
People seek counselling for all sorts of different reasons. Maybe you are feeling anxious, depressed or have low self-worth. Perhaps painful past experiences or relationships are having an impact on your current life. You might be bereaved or have been affected by health issues. Sometimes it is not even clear why we feel the way we do. We might want to feel differently or do things differently but are struggling to change things for ourselves.
Being able to talk about what is going on for you with someone who isn’t a friend or family member, can really help. I will help you to explore the concerns that are troubling you in a calm and confidential environment, free from any judgement or criticism. This can allow you to reach a better understanding of yourself, your feelings, your actions, and your choices, so that you can find a way through which is right for you.
As well as my private practice, I volunteer both at a local charity offering counselling to survivors of abuse and at my local hospice, working with patients, family members and people who are bereaved. I also do some work for the Alpha Omega WPS foundation and Optima, as well as being a Mental Health Mentor for university students.
If you have any questions at all or are interested in booking a first session, please get in touch.
Practice description
Finding a counsellor and beginning therapy can be daunting and it is important you find a counsellor that you are happy with. This is why I offer a free introductory phonecall, so that you can get a feel for me and ask any questions you might have.
I offer face to face, online or telephone counselling, so that you can choose what suits you best. Whichever method you choose, I aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible, so that you feel able to express what you need to.
Each session lasts for 50-60 minutes and in this time I will help you to explore whatever is troubling you and to find a way forward.
My first session
The first session usually involves a discussion about how we will work together as well as an initial exploration of what is troubling you and what you would like from therapy. It is really important that you find a therapist and a therapeutic process which suits you and this first meeting is also a time for you to ask any questions and to get a sense of me as a therapist and my therapeutic approach.
