About me and my therapy practice

Hello my name is Shelley, thank you for taking the time to read my profile.  I have many years of experience working with clients who come to me for many different reasons, wanting either long term therapy or short term, some come back to me after many years just for extra support when something new in their life has become challenging.

My approach as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist is to help enable you to understand why long standing challenges and conflicts from your past are having an impact on your current life today. By working together you will become more self aware and have a better insight about certain patterns of receptive behaviour which are having a negative impact on your daily life. By exploring these early experiences together you will begin to understand how they have impacted on your life, such as with personal relationships with family, colleagues at work and friendships. Once you gain a better awareness you can make adjustments and change the way you think and feel which will have a positive impact on your life moving forward.

Practice description

As a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist my practice is based on psychoanalytical principles which means I listen to your current issues whilst remaining mindful that a lot you are being challenged by are greatly influenced by your earlier experiences in childhood.

What is important is you have a confidential and non - judgemental space to be listened too, perhaps for the very first time. To enable you to move forward it is important that you have a space to build trust with me, enabling the therapeutic relationship to develop.

My first session

The initial session will be an assessment (90 mins) either face to face or via zoom / telephone. This is an opportunity for you to discuss the issues which have brought you to therapy, exploring your early childhood experiences, family dynamics, school life, and other significant relationships. Towards the end of the session we will come to mutual agreement either for regular therapy sessions or be referred to another service.

Online or telephone sessions are particularly helpful for those who prefer to be in their own environment or wish to have them around work life.
