About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified and experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist. I hold a MA in Individual and Couple Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from Tavistock Relationships, an internationally recognised centre for couple psychotherapy teaching, research and practice.

In addition to my private practice, I work at NHS as a relational psychotherapist and at Tavistock Relationships as a visiting clinician and assessor.

I offer both open-ended and time-limited therapy, such as DIT (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy) and CTfD (Couple Therapy for Depression).

Practice description

I work psychodynamically with couples and individuals across a range of challenges, such as relationship difficulties, work stress, self-esteem, etc. The psychodynamic approach is an exploratory and reflective way of working. It seeks to uncover long-standing, often unconscious patterns of thought, feeling, and behaviour that may be shaping your current experiences. By becoming more aware of how past relationships and experiences continue to influence your present life, we can begin to make sense of repeating themes and open up the possibility for change, growth, and a more satisfying way of living.

The focus of therapy is to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space where you (and your partner) can seek to better understand yourselves, each other and your relationship. The aim is to help create clarity, develop insight, improve communication and build understanding. You can explore past and present concerns, all the time working at a pace to suit you.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so that we can briefly discuss what brings you to therapy and any questions you may have. You’re welcome to contact me directly at jennifer.jie.zou@gmail.com to arrange this.

If it feels like a good fit, we can then schedule a full 75-minute initial consultation. This session provides space for us to explore your situation in more depth, whether you’re seeking therapy as an individual or as a couple, and to think together about what you hope to gain from the process. It’s also a chance to get a sense of how we might work together and whether this approach feels right for you, both emotionally and practically.

Starting therapy is a meaningful step, and finding the right therapist is an important part of that process. Sometimes it can be helpful to have up to three initial sessions before deciding whether to begin regular ongoing work together. This allows us both to develop a clearer sense of whether this therapeutic relationship feels supportive and constructive for you.
