About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I鈥檓 Mark. If you鈥檝e found yourself here, you might be going through something difficult, and you鈥檙e wondering if therapy could help. The good news is that it can (And I'm ready to support you in taking the next step).
Many years ago, receiving therapy myself transformed my life and set me on a path of healing and self-discovery. It wasn鈥檛 easy, but it was worth it. With the right support, the same can happen for you.
Finding a therapist can feel daunting, but having the right therapist is key. The most important factor for successful therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist, it's what enables the real work, and the real change to unfold.
My Story
For many years I worked as an IT Project Manager. Then life threw me some profound personal challenges and loss, which made me re-evaluate everything. I went to therapy, and the experience was so powerful that I decided to change direction completely. I left behind a successful but unfulfilling career to complete my postgraduate training and qualify as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
After a period working as a therapist for York St. John鈥檚 University and with NHS referrals through Mind, I鈥檝e focused entirely on my private practice for the past six years. I value the variety this brings, every client comes with their own story and challenges, and I enjoy the process of working together to find the best way forward for them.
Because I鈥檝e experienced hardship, trauma, and many of the struggles my clients face, I bring real empathy and understanding to my work.
Practice description
As a therapist I find that I am able to build very strong relationships with my clients and this enables me to help them to affect real change in their lives.
My approach is collaborative, we work together to find the style of therapy that best suits your unique path of exploration and healing.
I draw on a wide range of approaches, including attachment theory, transactional analysis, polyvagal theory, Gabor Mat茅鈥檚 compassionate enquiry, dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), mindfulness, internal family systems, and, importantly, common sense.
I adapt our work depending on your needs. For some clients, silence gives space for reflection, for others, a conversational style feels more natural.
I offer,
鈼 short-term therapy (3鈥6 sessions) for focused support,
鈼 medium-term therapy (10鈥20 sessions) for deeper work,
鈼 long-term therapy when ongoing support is needed,
There鈥檚 no minimum session commitment and no requirement to pay for a block of sessions in advance. You choose when therapy ends.
My first session
鈼 Availability:
Monday to Thursday, 09.00am to 8.00pm
Friday 09.00am-2.00pm
鈼 Session length: 60 minutes (not the standard 50) so we have time to settle in and wrap up without eating into your therapy time
鈼 Fee: 拢60 per session
鈼 Intro session: Free 20 to 30 minutes via Zoom or phone to see if we鈥檙e a good fit
In Leeds, I only offer remote sessions. These are via
鈼 Zoom
鈼 Telephone
Where possible, I offer flexibility to clients when it comes to choosing the day and time of sessions. Some prefer a regular slot, but the majority appreciate being able to move around the day and/or time of day of their sessions to fit in with their busy lives.
