About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist based in Herne Hill. The clinic is located a very short walk from Herne Hill overground station and offers a calm, confidential space in which to discuss what troubles you.
Therapy can help when life seems either too much or not enough—perhaps both at once. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a once-weekly, open-ended modality focused on understanding the less conscious drivers of our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Bringing these into awareness helps achieve a more satisfying and stable experience of life. The "here and now" of the therapeutic relationship is emphasised, since it is likely that the self and interpersonal issues that brought you to therapy will emerge "in real time." This makes the therapy more than simply a process of excavating, or ruminating on, the past.
You are welcome to contact me if you feel:
* Anxious or stressed.
* Depressed, flat, or somehow empty.
* Unable to recover from a loss.
* Lonely and struggling to form friendships.
* Angry, or as though you’re always in conflict with other people.
* Troubled by intrusive thoughts or memories.
* Repeatedly drawn to unsatisfying and possibly self-destructive behaviours.
* Physical symptoms that don’t seem to have a medical explanation.
The first step is an initial consultation, which will allow me to find out a bit more about you, and for you to decide whether you are comfortable working with me. The initial consultation costs £30.
I am also a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and adhere to their ethical standards.
Practice description
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist working with adults (18+), with 5+ years of post-qualification experience. Following introductory studies at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust, I completed my clinical qualification in psychodynamic psychotherapy at WPF Therapy. In addition to my private practice, I am an honorary psychotherapist for Southwark PCMHT and the Maudsley's self-harm service (SHOPS). I am currently training in transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP), a psychoanalytically informed treatment specifically tailored for personality disorders.
My first session
Contacting a therapist is a big step that can cause anxiety in itself. The first session lasts for 50 minutes and is more like a consultation. It is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to decide whether you are comfortable working with me. I will encourage you to talk about what has led you to seek therapy and what you hope to achieve from it. I will also ask some questions to help me get a better picture of your life, including relationships past and present. Equally, you should feel free to ask me any questions about therapy that come to mind. This initial consultation costs £30.
There is no obligation to continue with therapy after the first session, and we may agree to meet together for another consultation before committing to a regular time together. Subsequent sessions last for 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week.
