About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Richard — an accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor and a registered Social Worker with Social Work England (SWE).
My therapeutic approach has been influenced by over 15 years of delivering support services (both for statutory and third sector organisations), alongside my personal connection to the UK’s largest children’s charity - Barnardo’s. I learnt from these experiences the profound importance of developing caring and trusted relationships if you want to bring about meaningful change. This underpins my approach to practice.
My core training enables me to integrate various therapeutic models, but I favour Brief Psychodynamic Therapy (BPT) as it helps people in a shorter timeframe with a focused treatment that goes beyond symptom relief. It helps people uncover and resolve unconscious emotional conflicts and relational patterns that drive their struggles, leading to lasting change in how they think, feel and connect with others.
I am experienced at working with young people and adults from all backgrounds and across a wide range of issues. If you would like to meet with me and explore how I might be of help, please feel free to get in touch.
In addition to my private practice in North London, for the last 7 years I’ve also been providing a free counselling service for care-experienced young adults (ages 18–25) in partnership with the Drive Forward Foundation charity.
Practice description
My core training enables me to integrate various therapeutic models, including Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. At present, my area of focussed interest is in Brief Psychodynamic Therapy (BPT) — an evidence-based, time-limited approach that supports emotional processing, self-insight and relational change. Psychodynamic therapy operates on the premise that unconscious processes and childhood experiences significantly influence our current behaviour and relationships. It aims to explore these unconscious patterns, bringing them into our awareness to facilitate healing and resolution.
My first session
Your first session will give you an opportunity to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me and if I’m the right person to support you moving forward. It’s a time that allows you to share what difficulties you want my help with and to identify your goals for our work together. I am also here to answer any questions and/or concerns that you may have about the process. The length of therapy will depend on the scope and complexity of your therapeutic goals.
