About me and my therapy practice
鈥淭he greatest illusion,鈥 said the mole, 鈥渋s that life should be perfect.鈥 鈥 Charlie Mackesy
Hi, I鈥檓 Sara McGuirk, Integrative Psychotherapist and Founder of Ray of Light Therapeutic Services. Having experienced trauma in my own life, I understand how important it is to feel truly seen, heard, and supported. I鈥檓 an integrative, registered psychotherapist with over six years鈥 experience working with children, teenagers, and adults facing a wide range of emotional challenges, including anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship stress, and the unique experiences of neurodiversity.
My integrative, person-centred, and trauma-informed practice offers calm, confidential support tailored to each individual鈥檚 journey. I am deeply committed to creating a safe, compassionate space where children, young people, and adults can feel understood, valued, and supported as they explore, heal, and grow.
Adults often describe therapy with me as empowering and healing, a space to reflect, feel supported, and explore what鈥檚 going on beneath the surface. For children, therapy offers a calm, creative space to be heard, express big feelings through play, and start to feel better in themselves. Many begin to understand their emotions more clearly, feel safer, and gain confidence in how they cope and connect with others.
Therapy is available online via video for adults and teens, giving flexibility and consistency no matter your location or lifestyle. For children, I offer face-to-face sessions in a calm, welcoming space tailored to their needs and pace. I understand that reaching out can feel daunting鈥攁nd you鈥檙e not expected to have all the answers.
The therapy I offer is rooted in values of inclusivity, compassion, and integrity. I aim to make therapy approachable and supportive, whether it鈥檚 your first time seeking help or returning after a break. You鈥檒l find a space where creativity is welcomed, and emotional well-being is at the heart of the therapy I provide.
Practice description
Therapy with me is a relational and creative process, grounded in trust, psychological safety, and genuine connection. Having experienced my own challenges, I understand how important it is to feel truly seen and supported. I offer a calm, compassionate space where you can explore what鈥檚 weighing on you鈥攚ithout pressure, judgment, or the expectation to have all the answers.
I respond to you and your pace, noticing what feels most helpful in the moment. Sessions may include reflection, gentle challenge, or creative exploration. I integrate talk therapy with expressive tools like art, metaphor, and symbolism鈥攅specially when words feel stuck or emotions need room to breathe. Together, we make sense of what鈥檚 unfolding, in ways that feel right for you.
Building a trusting relationship with you is central to everything I do. It鈥檚 the foundation for healing, clarity, and lasting emotional resilience. Whether you鈥檙e navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, neurodivergence, or relational stress, our work is collaborative, rooted in curiosity, self-connection, and growth.
I offer both online (video or telephone) and face-to-face sessions, with flexible appointment times to fit your life. For children, sessions are playful and creative, helping them feel safe, heard, and able to explore big emotions in ways that suit their developmental needs. Adults and teens often tell me they leave sessions feeling lighter, more understood, and able to see their challenges with greater clarity.
I鈥檓 here to help you feel seen, supported, and able to explore your emotions at your own pace. Together, we find ways to help you feel calmer, clearer, and more confident in yourself.
A space to reflect, express, and reconnect with yourself.
My first session
First Session The first session is a gentle starting point. It鈥檚 a chance for you to share what鈥檚 brought you to therapy, ask questions, and see if it feels like a good fit. There鈥檚 no pressure to open up straight away鈥攊t鈥檚 about beginning to build trust, comfort, and emotional safety.
Before we meet, I may offer a short form and reflection questions to help understand your background, current struggles, and what鈥檚 already helping. These are simply a guide for our work together and are revisited now and then to check in on how things are going.
For children and teens, I include time with both the young person and their parent or carer. This helps me understand their world, build connection, and gently explore any worries or strengths. Regular check-ins with you are part of how we stay connected and make sure everyone feels supported as therapy progresses.
While the first session is charged at the usual rate, I do offer a free, informal referral call if you鈥檇 like to talk before deciding to book.
