About me and my therapy practice
A warm welcome to my profile.
People seek counselling for many different reasons – whether it is to explore the impact of a significant life event, to reflect on past experiences, to look to change current ways of thinking and feeling, or to release some of life’s overwhelming emotions.
Counselling is a place where we can unpack those emotions, get to know ourselves and explore our sense of identity in a confidential, judgement free and safe setting.
I work from an integrative model of counselling, which means I can apply skills and principles of different models of therapy depending on the needs of each client. This allows us to create a therapeutic relationship that is unique to each client.
My training and qualifications include:
- Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People in Trauma
- Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Approved practitioner of the Rewind Technique - a non-intrusive method of therapy that can be used to reduce trauma symptoms and flashbacks
- Certificate in Trauma Focused CBT - a style of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is used to treat people who have have experienced trauma
- Facilitating the release of Trauma, including techniques for regulation
- Working with suicide and self-harm
- Working with child survivors of sexual abuse
- Understanding the effects of childhood trauma on development
I attend regular training on safeguarding, delivered by the Local Authority, which ensures that my safeguarding procedures are in line with current policies and legislation.
I have worked with a wide range of clients of all ages (children to adult) and backgrounds, including clients with disabilities and neurodiversities, in both a private and an organisational setting.
While I am comfortable working with a wide range of themes, I specialise in working with trauma and am a passionate advocate for the benefits of counselling in this field.
I am insured and hold an up-to-date, enhanced DBS check.
Practice description
I offer a free thirty minute telephone consultation to all prospective clients. This allows us the time to get to know each other a little, and for you to ask me any questions you may have about therapy, about me or my practice.
As an Integrative Counsellor, I will follow principles from three different models of counselling for our work together:
- Person-Centred practice – traditional talking therapy, which is focuses on exploring emotions at your pace and in your own way;
- Psychodynamic practice - exploring how our past experiences affect our day-to-day lives and our sense of self;
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - working together to challenge negative thoughts and behaviours.
I can offer face to face sessions from premises in Chester. I can also offer counselling by telephone or online, should you prefer a remote option.
My first session
During our first session, we can explore your reasons for coming to counselling and your hopes for what you would like to get from it. Sometimes people have an idea of what they want to achieve from counselling. Sometimes, people just want to see a change in themselves or their lives. I will be guided by you.
I will take time to explain the counselling process, including my methods of working, aspects of confidentiality and details of record keeping, and will be able to help with any questions you may have. We can explore the boundaries of therapy, and collaborate to ensure that we agree on how we will work together.
It is really important that you feel comfortable with me and able to trust me as your counsellor, and so our first session will also give us an opportunity to get to know one another.
It is also important to know that I will never expect you to share anything with me that you don't feel comfortable with. Therapy is a personal journey, and you hold the power and autonomy in what we explore.
