About me and my therapy practice
There are so many counsellors to choose from. Deciding who will be right for you can feel a bit overwhelming. So why choose me?
I am a Humanistic therapist and work in a warm, down to earth, conversational way. I respect the individuality of each person with whom I work and their unique life experiences.
I believe that while our histories continue to impact us in the present, this is not all we are, and I am interested in how we manage ourselves in response to our experience every day.
To feel seen and heard for who we are can be one of the most transformative aspects of therapy.
Some of the areas I work with include:
- Building self-esteem and learning self-care techniques
- Managing anxiety and panic
- Creating and managing satisfying relationships with partners, family, friends and colleagues
- Conflict and anger management
- Work and career issues
- Loss
- Managing relationships with friends or family affected by severe mental illness
- Fertility issues including the impact of miscarriage, ectopic and molar pregnancies
Therapy can be open-ended or short term for as long as you find it useful or valuable in your life.
This may be the first time you have considered therapy, or you may be returning to it. Either way, you can call for an informal chat about how we might work together.
Practice description
I offer sessions in person or online via Teams.
Sessions are:
- 50 minutes with individuals (£80)
- 60 minutes with couples (£100).
I began working with individuals in 2006. In 2013, I completed additional training to work with couples. I have almost 20 years experience as a therapist.
I also work with young people aged 18 years and over.
Often a crisis or major life event starts us thinking about therapy or counselling for ourselves. We can also choose therapy at any point in our lives. We may want to learn more about ourselves, gain greater clarity on our thoughts and feelings, improve the quality of our lives and relationships, or unburden, have someone to talk to and tell our story.
Therapy gives us the time and space – in a safe, supportive and confidential environment – to reflect on what works for us in our lives and recognise changes we might like to make.
Therapy gives us greater awareness of our emotions and our behaviours. With this awareness, we feel more in control of our lives, are able to make informed choices as well as recognising more options available to us.
My first session
In your initial session, we will explore what brings you to therapy at this point in your life. We will discuss what you'd like from the process and what your expectations are.
You will not be assessed nor will you be asked to complete an assessment.
You can ask me any questions you may have.
At the end of the session, we can decide if we would like to continue working together and book further sessions.
You are not obliged to continue if you are not completely comfortable. And I will tell you if I think someone else would be better for you.
Sometimes it can take more than one session to get a feel for whether you think the therapeutic match is a good one. You are welcome to book further sessions with me to help you decide.
