About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Charlotte Dalmadge, and I am a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist, working with children and young people up to 25 years old.
I hold a Master's Degree in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents from Birkbeck University. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (Íø±¬ÃÅ) and adhere to its Ethical Framework. I have over 17 years of experience working with children, young people and families as a Social Worker, Counsellor and Psychotherapist in a variety of settings, including family centres, charities and schools, both face-to-face and online.
I am passionate about the mental health and emotional well-being of children and young people. I believe early therapeutic support can help children and young people process and navigate their internal and external challenges, leading to a greater capacity for emotional resilience and creating lifelong changes. I specialise in supporting children/young people through a wide range of issues, including Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Friendship issues, Identity exploration, Low mood, Neurodiversity, Parental Separation, Self-esteem challenges, School avoidance, and Trauma.
Practice description
I create a safe, non-judgemental, consistent space that allows children and young people to feel reassured, heard and valued.
I use a client-led approach, which means the client directs the session. This allows clients to explore their interests, set the pace of therapy and establish the therapeutic relationship. I am experienced in facilitating the use of creative resources, such as art, sand tray work, and play therapy, to help children and young people express themselves if they choose to engage in this way. I believe symbolic communication and creative exploration are valuable tools for self-discovery.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute introductory call with parents/carers to discuss the reasons for seeking therapy. Please note this is optional; there is no obligation after this call to sign up for sessions.
Before commencing work with a child/young person, I offer an assessment session, the parent/carer will join for the first half, so that we can discuss your child/young person’s needs, child development, background, family information and your goals for your child's therapy. In the second half of the session, I will spend one-on-one time with your child/young person, giving them space to discuss their presenting issues and goals for therapy.
The assessment session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the therapy process, for your child/ young person to see what therapy is all about, whether I am the right therapist for them, and if they feel therapy is something they are happy to commit to. Following this, regular therapy sessions can be booked.
Please note assessments may take up to 1 hour, but will be charged at my normal rate.
