About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Kerrie, I am a fully qualified, experienced, Integrative counsellor. I have over 25 years working in helping professions, professions that have required sensitivity, compassion and connection. I offer both talking therapy and somatic therapy.
While talking therapy focuses on thoughts and emotions, somatic therapy also works with the body. It helps people understand how past experiences-especially trauma-can get "stuck" in the body and show up as things like tension, anxiety, or feeling disconnected.
By gently working with both mind and body, we can begin to release these patterns and help you feel more grounded, present and in control of your life.
I have a special interest in working with people who've had difficult experiences in early childhood. This might include times when emotional or physical needs weren't met, feelings were ignored or dismissed or, there was abuse or neglect. These early experiences can have a lasting impact and may show up in adult life as,
Challenges in relationship
Patterns in relating that feel painful or hard to change.
Anxiety, depression or stress
physical health problems
However a persons distress manifests, the root of my work is to support the individual to feel more able to cope with the complexities of life.
Throughout my career as a counsellor I have had the opportunity to work with many individuals. I have worked to support people who may feel Isolated, withdrawn, sad, shamed or find that stress responses like fight, flight, freeze and shutdown are prevalent as coping mechanisms. There may be many reasons why individuals feel and respond in these ways, ultimately myself and the client will work together to gain a deeper understanding of their process, to support their feelings and responses and hopefully bring the client to a place whereby they feel more regulated.
At the heart of my work, regardless of the issue lies the client, I respect the individuality of each client and offer compassion, kindness and respect.
Practice description
Within my practice I support my clients to find a narrative for their experiences of the world. Alongside finding a narrative, I encourage the noticing of physical sensation as a way to expand the clients understanding of themselves as a whole. Noticing, sensing and trusting in the physical sensation can provide a valuable guide to support decision making and defining of boundaries.
I support my clients with care and compassion to develop a deeper and less frightening relationship to their emotions, if they so choose. This work develops through the safety and containment of the therapeutic relationship allowing the client to explore themselves more deeply, aides autonomy and freedom around decision making and life choices and offers a framework for the client to deepen connections to themselves and other.
