About me and my therapy practice
Approach
I have an eclectic and integrative approach, stemming from a Humanistic starting point. Since my initial training in person-centred therapy, I have been passionate about adding to my skills. I am always learning from my clients, therefore bringing in different approaches compliments the diversity of needs and individuality.
Recent training has taught me additional knowledge in neurobiology and the connection between mind and body. Through grounding, imagery and mindfulness, it is possible to cultivate a calm and clear headspace for those that find themselves in threat based thinking. Research is showing that therapies need to be offering more than just a narrative approach.
I bring Compassion into my work with a belief it can help in cultivating a secure internal attachment, aid relationships and support the courage needed to face our deepest fears.
Focusing, somatic attunement and parts work have been developed in recent Counselling for Depression training. This takes an Emotion focused approach and is proven to be very helpful for Depression, Anxiety and Trauma.
I am also an advocate for chairwork as an approach to really feel and become the parts of self we are struggling to integrate.
I have additional training in Transactional Analysis (101 from UKATA) and Compassion Focused Therapy (PGCert with University of Derby).
Practice description
I see client's face to face in Cheadle and also offer the option of telephone or video (zoom sessions).
I have 8 years experience as a counsellor, since I qualified with a Post Graduate Diploma at the University of Salford in 2017. I have delivered counselling for two charities and currently work for the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS foundation four days a week (NHS Talking Therapies).
I deliver counselling with warmth, compassion and a deep empathy for the conflicts that can arise within. I contract with each individual and strive to understand what is needed from the therapy, whether that be short term or longer term work.
I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
