About me and my therapy practice

Surely not another therapy profile! If you鈥檙e new to therapy and in distress, which is highly likely otherwise why would you be on this website, scrolling through picture after picture, reading description after description can be overwhelming and tedious.

It鈥檚 hard to get a sense of someone from their portrait-mode selfie, and common therapy statements like, 鈥淚鈥檓 caring and supportive, non-judgmental鈥, which if we鈥檙e honest, should be the bare minimum in our profession.

So, it鈥檚 up to me to explain to you that I鈥檓 somehow different from other therapists and have something unique to offer.

I believe the three points below do just that.

ONE: A Decade Worth of Experience

I鈥檝e worked in the profession and delivered over 5000 hours of different types of therapy for almost a decade, in various settings such as our beloved NHS, where I won a regional award. In the charity sector, where I helped pioneer a fathers-only support group for Dad鈥檚 who lost children. And, privately, where I鈥檝e helped tons of people all over the UK and even Europe. I鈥檓 also involved in innovative therapy research which helps keep me sharp, humble and up to date.

Practice description

TWO: My Impact on Others

As a therapist I believe you have to have some character. At the core of my character is the deep-seated commitment to alleviate the suffering of others, (again 鈥 that should be the given in our profession). But on top that, my clients tell me that I often demonstrate a confidence to be authentic and vulnerable in ways that humanises me without compromising my professionalism.

鈥淵our patience and understanding made all the difference, and I am incredibly grateful to have found such a supportive therapist in you鈥

鈥 Steven, 2025.

鈥淲orking with you, has to be one of best decisions of my life鈥

- Lucy, 2025.

"I have worked with James for almost a year and he has been a key part of my progress in overcoming past trauma... I have seen a huge improvement in my overall well-being."

鈥 Kiara, 2024.

"James has been an invaluable asset to me as a barrister navigating emotionally charged cases... His insight and guidance have helped me untangle my thoughts, making the challenges of life and work more manageable..."

鈥 Michael, 2024.

THREE: A Lifetime of Learning

I am by no means a perfect person. I have regrets in life, I鈥檝e been na茂ve and at times downright stupid. I鈥檝e had many past lives. I鈥檝e been a world travelling elite athlete for team GB and England whose career was cut short by a tragic accident. I鈥檝e suffered a bunch of childhood trauma which, when coincided with the car accident led me to suffer from PTSD (panic, hypervigilance, low-self-esteem) for a period of time. I am now successful at what I do, stable, self-compassionate, married, a dad, sober, content and committed to continually opening to growth and development, and helping my clients in every way possible.

My first session

Types of difficulty I work with

My work varies incredibly but, my job is not to be an expert in every human experience, but to use my expertise to help people navigate the process of what they鈥檙e going through. What I mean is, within one week alone I can be helping a woman leave an abusive relationship, an entrepreneur selling his business for few a million, a gay man who is coming out in his late 50鈥檚, a young lad coming to terms with his existence, or a dad whose child has tragically died and much more.

Next steps

I offer a free telephone or video 20-minute consultation so if you鈥檙e interested, send me a quick text on 07763085726 or hit the enquiry button.

Sessions last 60 minutes

I鈥檓 available in person and online, Tuesdays to Fridays. I don鈥檛 work evenings or weekends.

My therapy space is located in the beautiful Royal Exchange in Manchester, city centre.

My advice for searching for a therapist

  1. Reach out to more than one
  2. Ask for a consultation with more than one
  3. After consultations feel free to either jump in straight away or take your time to think about it.
  4. When you start, remember that you鈥檙e not stuck with your first therapist. If it feels like it鈥檚 not working out, you鈥檙e not obligated to stay.
  5. Finally, therapists are like hairdressers, when you find the right one, you鈥檒l stick with them. But, after a while you might want a different hairstyle, so it might be worth finding someone else.

If I don鈥檛 hear from you then all the best with your search for a therapist.

My work varies incredibly. My job is not to be an expert in every human experience, but to use my expertise to help people navigate the process of what they鈥檙e going through.
