About me and my therapy practice
Hi. I’m Anna and I'm glad you found your way to my profile.
I am a counselling psychotherapist, practicing for over eight years now working with people navigating their inner and outer worlds. I am an Internal Family Systems practitioner at my heart and will be connecting to the parts of you that need time and space to feel better. I am here to help with thoughts and feelings you experience that can, naturally, tangle up inside of ourselves.
Have you felt stuck in a cycle of emotions or patterns of behaviours?
Low, anxious, existential, fed up, frustrated, angry, confused, self destruction, hurting on the inside…you name it. I know that whatever it is you’re thinking or feeling, I’m sure you aren’t doomed to always be, feel or think this way.
I believe the trials and tribulations of life can cause us to take on beliefs and ideas about ourselves and who we are. By existing as a a human we absorb roles, thoughts, feelings and burdons which affect our self esteem and how we feel about the world around us. On an unconscious level this organises how we relate to the world, others and ourselves. Maybe you’re already aware of some of these things that trigger you, but you notice still falling into the same issues and patterns? Either way what has happened to us affects how we move forward in the world. Sometimes we develop coping strategies to avoid feeling the struggles or pains we went through in our past.
I believe that no matter what you have been through, together we can explore and understand who you truly are behind all the tough life experiences, memories and difficulties of the past. By using an internal family systems approach, and looking at the 'parts' of you that behave the way they do, we will process what has happened and move on to find inner clarity, peace and calm.
Practice description
I invite you into a non-judgemental, open minded space, where you’re welcome to be your most honest self and show up with all the thoughts and feelings you’re struggling with. You're welcome no matter what your mood.
It might seem like a bold statement, but I know within us all there is the capacity to heal pain from the past, overcome life’s hurdles and break the patterns of behaviors we have been stuck in. It is my job to help you compassionately enquire and uncover the true you and potentials you have inside.
At the heart of my support, I am a trauma informed therapist informed by the Internal Family Systems theory. My ways of working have their roots in humanistic and existential therapies while following Carl Jung’s sense that we can make the stuff of our unconscious become conscious (and thus lead a better life!). Using the IFS model I believe you will build an understanding within yourself through exploring the parts of you that think and feel a certain way and how these have been shaped by your context and experiences of relationships throughout your life. I fundamentally believe humans are good people, but life experiences teach us that the world is a scary or unsafe place, leaving us feeling low, anxious, afraid and feeling like the problem lies within us.
My first session
I offer a free half hour intro session where I can hear about you and what you'd like to talk about in sessions. This intro is a way for you to get an idea of what therapy will feel like together and ask any questions you have on your mind.
I invite you to just be yourself, however that my look, seem of feel. You're safe with me.
Our first session will focus on you and your story for us to differentiate between the parts of you that have gotten you in a bind or trigger you emotionally. If you like, we can also talk through the Internal Family Systems model to have an understanding of the nature of parts and their role in your inner world.
