About me and my therapy practice

I am an Accredited member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ and I hold a postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I am also a trainee EMDR practitioner. I have over ten years of experience in the field of mental health. I encourage you to visit my website before getting in touch so that you can get a feel for whether I'm the right therapist for you, which is the most important thing.

Integrating the Gestalt and Existential approaches to therapy, I provide counselling (short-term) and psychotherapy (longer-term) for individuals over the age of 18. Sessions last 50-minutes and require a commitment to meet weekly. The space I offer is safe, down-to-earth, and collaborative. It aims to help you explore your inner world, gain greater self-awareness, discover your potential, and find meaning and purpose in life. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, loss, stuckness, your identity, relationship issues, or you simply feel like you’re not living up to your potential, I am here to help. You might just discover parts of yourself that you couldn’t see before, like the roots of a tree, so that you can stand resilient and flexible in the face of life’s challenges.

Alongside my humanistic therapy practice, I’m currently training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an evidence-based therapy for processing distressing or traumatic memories. I’m offering a limited number of EMDR sessions at a reduced rate while I complete my training, for eligible clients affected by a single-event adulthood trauma, phobia, grief, etc. Please visit my website for details.

I have worked as a therapist with clients from the LGBTQ+ community for many years. This, coupled with my own LGBTQ+ identity, gives me a passion and respect for Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity (GSRD).

Practice description

GESTALT THERAPY is an experiential approach that focuses on the present moment and the whole person. We work together to increase your self-awareness and explore how you relate to yourself, others, and the world around you. In sessions we might explore what is happening for you in certain moments, paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, sensations, posture, behaviours, and so on. We might use creative techniques such as drawing, role-playing, or using a sandtray to help you get in touch with parts of yourself that you might have pushed away.

EXISTENTIAL THERAPY is a philosophical approach that explores human existence and the meaning of life. It examines the fundamental questions that we all face at some point, such as: Who am I? What gives life meaning? What is my purpose? By confronting these questions, we can develop a greater sense of freedom and responsibility to shape our own lives in a meaningful way. In sessions, we might explore how authentically you feel you are living your life and experiment with new ways of being that align with your values and goals. We might use different types of expression (dialogue, metaphor, journaling) to identify your patterns and beliefs that keep you from facing existential realities such as self-responsibility and freedom of choice.

EMDR is a structured psychotherapy that aims to reduce the impact of past distressing experiences on current daily life. We "process" memories one-by-one by inviting you to bring to mind the memory while following a form of "bilateral stimulation", for example eye movements or gentle tapping. This is thought to encourage the brain's natural healing mechanism to become active, allowing it to make sense of the memory more adaptively through the perspective of your present, adult, growth-oriented self. Memories become much less emotionally intense, they are re-stored in an integrated way in your memory networks, and daily life becomes less activating.

My first session

The best way for us to get a feel for whether I'm the right therapist for you is to meet for a 50-minute consultation, charged at £30 (currently free for EMDR). It is a good opportunity for us to gently explore what brings you to therapy, your goals for the work, what working with me might look and feel like, and any questions you might have. By the end of the consultation there is no pressure to make a decision about working together.
