About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my counselling psychotherapy and personal development practice. I am an experienced person-centred counsellor, psychotherapist and group therapist offering a safe, confidential and non judgemental space for you to explore what matters to you. My aim is to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to share and explore whatever is on your mind. I understand that reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, but many of my clients find their worries begin to ease once we meet and start the journey together.

Since I completed my counselling training in 2016, I have worked within the NHS, educational and volunteer settings and charities. More recently, I have worked within the NHS Talking Therapies Service as a Counselling Psychotherapist and as a Counsellor at Weymouth College. Between 2017 and 2020, I worked as a Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor within a charitable organisation called Yellow Door, formerly Southampton Rape Crisis. Within this service, I provided one to one counselling and Trauma Focused therapy, and facilitated a weekly therapy group, called Safer Relationships.

I have worked extensively with people in areas such as anxiety, depression, trauma, work stress, anger, self-esteem, and burnout. I have also worked in the area of neurodiversity, relationship issues, parental issues, domestic abuse, narcissistic abuse, codependeny, and attachment. I have in-depth knowledge of working with Trauma and PTSD particularly in relation to veterans, childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic abuse. Other work includes delivering Mindfulness, Personal Development and developing and running courses and workshops, helping people reconnect with a sense of purpose and their values.

Practice description

My approach is firmly rooted within person centred therapy, and therefore led by you and your wishes. However, I am also able to draw on my training in Transactional Analysis, Compassion-Focussed Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy if we decide together that this would be helpful. It may also be useful to incorporate skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Trauma-Focused Therapy, depending on what emerges, ensuring our work together is safe, supportive and effective in addressing what matters most to you.

I believe that everyone has an innate capacity for growth and healing, and with the right support, we naturally move towards a sense of balance and well-being.   As you begin to unpack and explore your thoughts and feelings, I will offer a space for you to explore this with curiosity and kindness. Through this exploration, my hope is that you will gain new insights and an emotional shift within yourself.

As the counselling progresses, you may notice certain themes or issues that feel important to explore more deeply. If it feels helpful, I can provide psychoeducation and practical resources to support your understanding, growth, and skill development. My goal is to empower you to become your own expert, equipping you with tools and insights to navigate challenges more confidently.

I also offer Personal Development sessions which are a series of 6 sessions, aimed at working on a specific goal or area that you wish to explore. We would meet initially to discuss the area you would like to work on, and I will tailor the sessions according to your needs.

I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, which sets ethical guidelines for the counselling I provide. I understand the importance of offering a quality service with high standards of care and I am committed to ongoing professional development. I hold the appropriate insurance and CRB/ DBS checks. I am GDPR aware and compliant.

My first session

Initial Consultation

Our first meeting is a free video call, which is an opportunity to explore what you are wishing to explore and whether we would be a good fit to work together. During this meeting we will discuss your needs and how I might be able to support you.

If we decide I’m not the right person to help, I’ll do my best to guide you toward other options or resources that may be more suitable. My aim is to ensure you feel supported and confident in taking the next step, whatever that may be.

It’s completely natural to feel unsure about how many sessions you might need. You’re welcome to start with just one session to see how it feels for you. From there, we can decide together what works best, whether it’s a short-term focus or a longer journey of exploration. Brief counselling could last around 4 - 6 sessions, whereas counselling psychotherapy could last for a longer amount of sessions.

Typically, we would meet on a weekly basis, and you’re free to take it one step at a time. There’s no pressure or commitment to a fixed number of sessions; this is about finding what feels right for you and you can end the sessions whenever the time feels right for you.

Please feel free to get in touch by email to ask any questions or arrange an initial session. I would be happy to help you take the next step.
