My first session
In our first session, the main aim is to get to know each other and begin to build a safe and trusting relationship.
We’ll start by talking through some important information, such as:
- How counselling works
- Confidentiality and its limits
- How we’ll work together (including how often, and for how long)
I’ll invite you to share what brings you to counselling, in your own time and in your own words. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
We might also:
- Talk about any goals you’d like to work towards
- Explore what’s been difficult recently or in the past
- Check in on your general well-being and any current support you have
- Identify any immediate needs or risks and make a plan if needed
You’re welcome to ask questions at any time. By the end of the session, we’ll agree on whether to continue working together and what the next steps might look like.
