About me and my therapy practice
I am Sheila and I wonder how you are you feeling right now?
Overwhelmed?
Perhaps each day feels like a struggle 鈥 filled with anxiety, stress, and a constant sense of dread that leaves a tight knot in your stomach. The joy has been sucked out of your life.
鈥婣濒辞苍别?
Have you lost someone important to you? Maybe people around you say, 鈥淵ou鈥檒l get over it,鈥 but no one truly wants to talk about how you're really feeling. Leaving you silently screaming, feeling isolated and alone in your grief.
Invisible, like no one sees or hears you?
You鈥檙e just expected to keep going, even when you're barely holding it together. The experience chipping away at your confidence, leaving you battling with low self-esteem.
Uncertain of your future?
An experience of a life-changing situation or illness that鈥檚 made you question everything and unsure how to move forward.
鈥婳r perhaps you're struggling with another situation 鈥 something that leaves you feeling anxious, stressed, depressed, angry, guilty, ashamed, exhausted, or simply lost.
At A Different Perspective Counselling, I offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space where you can explore whatever you're going through. I'm an experienced, Accredited 网爆门 Integrative Counsellor, and I鈥檓 here to walk alongside you as you navigate your thoughts, feelings, and life challenges.
Together, we can work toward change 鈥 helping you build confidence, communicate more effectively, and cope better with daily life. Ultimately, my aim is to support you in feeling happier, more grounded, and more secure in yourself.
I offer both face-to-face and online counselling sessions. Therapy can be short-term (6鈥12 sessions) or open-ended, with regular reviews to ensure the process is working well for you.
鈥 I am a BUPA Recognised Counsellor.
If anything you've read here resonates with you, I invite you to take the next step and contact me through the enquiry box.
I am to respond withing 24 hours. Please check your junk box for replies as they can sometimes end up in there.
Practice description
Face to face sessions take place in a comfortable private room.
There are rail and bus links within a short distance locally and also easy parking outside.
Online sessions are held via Google Meet.
As an accredited 网爆门 counsellor, I use a combination of approaches when working with my clients. My main way of working is Person Centred where you, my client, is at the centre of the work we do together, working in the 'here and now', with whatever you choose to bring into the counselling room to talk about, so you are always in control of what you share in the session.
Person Centred Counselling allows you to choose the focus and pace of the work. I believe in your potential and ability to make the right choices for yourself, regardless of my own values, beliefs and ideas.
鈥婭 also use the Psychodynamic approach: working with personal life experiences from your past which may also be impacting your present way of being and life experiences. I do also use other therapeutic tools and approaches where appropriate in order to meet your needs as my client.
Counselling offers a confidential and safe space in which you can explore, with my support, your thoughts, feelings and behaviour around your personal life experiences which may be causing difficulties. I do not give advice or tell you what to do nor will I judge you for the way you think, feel and behave.
I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is vitally important for the counselling to be of help and would encourage either the introductory call or an initial session to see if you feel I am the right counsellor for you and that we can work together.
Likewise if I feel I do not have the experience to support you with the issue you are coming with I will do my very best to direct you to where would best suit you.鈥
My first session
I offer a free introductory phone call lasting around 15 minutes. In this call we can discuss what issues you are looking for support with, ask me any questions you may have about counselling or about how I work as a counsellor.
This call will give us an initial feel if we might be able to work together. If I do not feel I am able to support you, I will look to direct you to other counsellors.
You may feel you do not need this initial call and want to book an initial session instead and we can arrange this through email contact.
Prior to our first session I email across my counselling agreement highlighting: confidentiality, privacy relating to your personal details I hold, cancellation procedures and and how to pay for sessions.
The first session is an opportunity for you to talk as much as you are able about what brings you to counselling and what your expectations are. We may look together in how we can proceed with sessions.
鈥 I have personal indemnity insurance in place.
