About me and my therapy practice
I know that, at times, life can be challenging. Whoever you are, and whatever your story, I will offer you a safe and confidential space to talk about what is troubling you, and will listen with compassion and without judgement to what you bring.
I am an experienced Íø±¬ÃÅ accredited and UKCP registered counsellor and psychotherapist working long term and short term with individuals face to face and online. For me, the therapeutic process is about more than 'getting rid' of a problem but can provide opportunity for growth and inner freedom through which we can open up to express ourselves more freely in the world and move towards a different relationship with ourselves and others. I see the work with clients as a partnership in which we are both engaged to make sense of a client's emotional life with the therapeutic relationship at the heart of what we do.
I work with a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds including students, academics, retired people, young professionals, managers, health workers, creative artists, and people working in public services. I have worked with a wide range of issues which have included depression and anxiety, grief and loss, stress, relationship difficulties, trauma and abuse.
I began my counsellor and psychotherapy training after many years working in education as a teacher and senior leader. My initial training was in psychosynthesis, an integrative, holistic approach which recognises a connection between body, feelings, mind and spirit. My work is continually developing and evolving as I reflect and update my practice through professional development opportunities. I am particularly interested in working with the body to help people regulate difficult feelings or overwhelming patterns.
I work from a quiet room in Waterbeach village, just North of Cambridge which has frequent rail services from Ely and Cambridge and lies close to the A10 and A14. There is excellent parking outside. I welcome any questions that you may have.
Practice description
Once you make contact with me, I will aim to respond quickly. I can offer you a free 15 minute conversation -either by phone, or a video call-to get a sense of me and answer any questions you have before we arrange an initial hour long session.
Or you may prefer to meet with me for an initial session straight away . Whichever you choose, this initial session will provide an opportunity for you to gain a sense of me and how I work, and for me to know hop best I might be able to help you.
If we decide after the initial session to take the work forward, we will make a time to see each other on a weekly basis. Sessions last an hour and usually take place at the same time each week, though I work flexibly for those whose shift pattens mean it is difficult to find a regular weekly time.
We may decide to work short term (usually for around 8-10 sessions) or in a more open ended way. Whichever feels right, at the heart of the work is the relationship that we build together.
