About me and my therapy practice

I work with people in a way that is gentle, supportive, and tailored to each person's needs. I believe that change and growth happen through the relationship we build together, in a space where you can feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. Central to my approach is the idea that healing often begins with the relationship we have with ourselves. By developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and acceptance, we can start to repair patterns of difficulty or distress. My work is guided by curiosity and gentle inquiry, helping you connect with yourself more fully while moving at a pace that feels right for you.

Compassion is at the heart of my work. I support clients in cultivating kindness towards themselves, particularly when life feels difficult or overwhelming. Many of us are our own harshest critics, and learning to relate to ourselves with patience and understanding can be deeply transformative. I also focus on the reparative potential of the therapeutic relationship, offering a safe, empathetic, and accepting space in which clients can explore patterns, emotional blocks, or challenges, and experience healing through connection.

I draw on an integrative approach, using a range of techniques and ideas to suit each client's needs. Whether you are looking to understand yourself better, work through difficult emotions,  navigate life transitions, or manage stress and burnout, my aim is to provide a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.

Practice description

I work with clients over the age of 18, supporting people through a range of life challenges. Many clients come to counselling at times of transition or reflection, often questioning aspects of their life related to aging, changes in family dynamics, estrangement, or experiences of loss and bereavement.  I also work with people experiencing burnout, compassion fatigue, or feeling overwhelmed by the demands of work or caring roles, including fellow counsellors and helping professionals.  I provide a safe and supportive space to explore these experiences, helping clients process emotion, gain clarity, and develop greater self-compassion.

I also work with couples, focussing on the interpersonal aspects of relationships. Together, we explore patterns of communication, connection, and understanding, creating a neutral space where both partners can feel heard and supported. If there is an area outside of my expertise, I will work collaboratively to ensure client are referred to appropriate specialists.

My approach is integrative and compassion focused, guided by gentle inquiry. I adapt my work to each person or couple, helping them explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences at a pace that feels right for them. Through this reflective and empathetic approach, clients can gain insight, process emotions, and develop practical strategies to manage life's challenges.

Whether you are seeking support for personal growth, navigating transitions, coping with loss, managing burnout or compassion fatigue, or enhancing relational understanding, my aim is to provide a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and supported on your journey.

My first session

Before booking a first appointment, I offer a free 15-minute phone or online chat.  This is an informal opportunity for you to ask questions, share what has brought you to counselling, and see if my approach feels right for you. There is no pressure to commit at this stage, and it can help you feel more confident about taking the next step.

For individual clients, your first full session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to feel comfortable in the counselling space. We will focus on exploring your experiences, the challenges you are facing, and what you hope to gain from counselling. Any remaining practical questions, such as session length, holidays, or frequency can also be addressed during this session.

For couples, I ask both partners to complete a brief life history questionnaire before the first appointment. This helps me understand your relationship, patterns of communication, and the context of the issues you wish to explore. The first session then focuses on reviewing these details, establishing a collaborative space, and agreeing on goals for you to work together.

Whether individual or couples, the first session is about creating a safe and supportive space where you can explore thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels right for you. My aim is to provide a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered to take the next steps in your journey.

By the end of the first session, most clients feel clearer about the process, the kind of support they will receive, and the next steps. It is a starting point for building a therapeutic relationship that is collaborative, reflective, and compassionate, giving you the opportunity to explore challenges and develop practical strategies for navigating life with greater insight and self-compassion.
