About me and my therapy practice

Counselling for over 10 years, primarily working long term, but also offering short term counselling when needed.  The sessions I offer are for 1 hour and usually held on a weekly basis.

Beginning the counselling process can feel daunting, especially if this is your first experience of therapy.  It is my job to ensure you have a safe and boundaried space to explore and share how you are feeling and what you are thinking.  It is also my job to help you through those thoughts and feelings and to try and make sense of anything that may be confusing.

I do a lot of relational work as well as working through difficult childhoods and upbringings.  Many of the people I work with have trauma to process, but I also work with those who may be wishing to work through particular current problem.

Practice description

Face to face and online sessions are for one hour.  I do not charge for sessions when I am on annual leave and I will always give at least 4 weeks' notice of my planned leave.  I do charge for missed client sessions.  If you have a conflict in your usual session time coming up, please let me know and I always move the time / day where possible to avoid a cancellation fee.

My first session

The first meeting with a potential new counsellor can cause anxiety and I do what I can to make the experience less daunting.

My room is comfortable and I do not expect you to tell me anything more than you want to when we first meet - this hour is an opportunity for us to make sure we are the right fit to continue the work together.

When you arrive, I will go through a bit more about how I work, what you can expect from counselling, answer any questions you may have and I will ask you what has brought you to counselling.  At the end of your session we will look at potential further sessions, if appropriate.

When making initial contact with me, and after we have found a suitable time and day for you to come in, I ask for a non-refundable up front payment via BACS for this session, which will be confirmation of your appointment.
