About me and my therapy practice

I have been working one to one with individuals since 1990, and bring that history of professional experience and voluntary counselling into my professional counselling work.  I trained for 5 years in Psychodynamic Counselling - Level 7 equivalent / Band C (SCoPED top band).    Training was accredited by the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) and subsequently by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).  As a BPC Accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor (equivalent to Íø±¬ÃÅ Senior Accredited) I supervise other counsellors up to Doctorate level, and also work as a Training Therapist for counsellors in training.

I have many years of experience working across a wide and diverse demographic and the range of difficulties experienced.  I have a special interest in Neurodivergence and following years of training and research, I have gained significant experience in working with clients with both diagnosed and undiagnosed Neurodivergence - Autism Spectrum - ASC/ASD, ADHD, AuDHD, and  those formerly diagnosed as Asperger’s.  Some clients find alternative terms outside of formal diagnosis more useful.  Finding their own terminology (e.g. Neurospicy, Chattybrain, Activebrain, etc) can be more useful for some.  Every client is different, and finding what works for them as an understanding of themselves and the world around them, is often more useful than the labels others wish to give them.

Qualifications:

Associate Programme (PQY) - Accredited by The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) - Level 7 equivalent / Band C SCoPED

Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling - Accredited by The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) - Band B SCoPED

Certificate in Counselling Skills - Accredited by the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF)

University of Chichester: BA (Hons)

Working Online Psychodynamic Counselling and Therapy

Practice description

Compass Point Counselling and Psychotherapy (Est. 2016)

I am now counselling exclusively in private practice at Compass Point Counselling offering both online and in person face to face therapy from my welcoming, confidential and dedicated consulting room in the heart of Ross on Wye.  My online counselling and therapy is via Zoom, and I have received specific training in working online to provide psychodynamic counselling and therapy.  All appointments are for 50 minutes weekly unless agreed otherwise.

In addition to my core training in long term open-ended psychodynamic counselling, I have trained in psychodynamic time-limited therapy, and worked for a period at The University of Gloucestershire working with students for time-limited counselling. I have also worked with clients referred for time-limited counselling and funded by their employer. I provide both open-ended and time-limited counselling for individual adults and couples in my private practice at Compass Point Counselling and Psychotherapy which we set up in 2016 from our consulting room in Ross on Wye.  My practice has been described by some as eclectic integrating aspects of personal centred, and many many more.  This is only done to meet the individuals’ needs and when it is appropriate to provide the best service to my client.

It is imperative for all counsellors to keep learning through engaging in a broad and deep programme of CPD (Continuing Professional Development).  As a counsellor that likes learning I regularly seek and take part in CPD courses.

I commit to continue to meet the requirements set out by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) - Standards of Conduct, Practice, and Ethics.

As a member of British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Íø±¬ÃÅ), I am bound by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and Professional Conduct Procedure.

As director of Compass Point, I work with a team of highly qualified female counsellors that I can refer you to if you would prefer.

My first session

On our first appointment we can discuss and explore together the issues that have brought you to counselling, what you hope for, and we can decide together on how we might best work together.

If you would like to arrange to see me for an initial assessment consultation, please phone 01989 940023, send me an email direct to kenneth@compasspointpotential.co.uk, or make contact with me or with one of my female colleagues through our contact form at www.CompassPointPotential.co.uk

We try to complete as much admin before the first session, so that we can use the initial session to its fullest potential.  When we have agreed on an appointment date and time, we request completion of our online registration process and payment of £65 for the first appointment, with ongoing appointment availability scheduled for counselling and therapy.
