About me and my therapy practice
I am an Accredited Counsellor and CBT specialist, Accredited with the BABCP, and have over 15 years clinical experience. I worked in the NHS as a Senior Practitioner for over 5 years and started my Private Practice over 10 years ago.
I work in a humanistic way, and use my specialist anxiety and trauma training experience in combination, to provide an integrative approach to my treatment plans.
In the NHS my treatment outcomes were considered to be in the highest performance area, and I gained amazing experience working in local GP surgeries adapting to the many diverse needs of my clients.
My background prior to my training has been in running my own businesses in London and locally, gaining ADR Mediation Training and working with professionals from all types of backgrounds.
My specialism is in anxiety and work place stress, together with trauma treatment plans, where good therapy can truly transform clients.
I came into therapy driven by a genuine desire to make a difference and help clients to understand why they are feeling anxious, depressed or just over-burdened by life and losing touch with themselves.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is truly transformative and provides lasting outcomes, as the concept is to arm clients with the tools they need to "be their own therapist" and not relapse. A jointly formulated treatment plan can achieve positive client goals in around 6 to 8 sessions.
Practice description
After a brief telephone assessment, I work jointly with my client to decide the client goals of their treatment plan.
I can work face-to-face or remotely, and during lock down I was both surprised and pleased to see that positive client outcomes were maintained regardless of the way the therapy was delivered.
I believe in a truly integrative approach to the therapy plan and regularly reviewing the client goals, in order to ensure positive outcomes.
During my Masters Degree equivalent CBT training I was lucky enough to be trained by some of the country's leading experts in all areas of anxiety and trauma. However, my Humanistic Counselling Diploma provided me with the tools to offer a compassionate and engaging client experience.
I regularly check in with my client to ensure the positive changes they want to achieve are on target.
One of the most important areas of good therapy is to encourage clients to genuinely understand why they are experiencing the way they are feeling, and how to make lasting changes, not just during and immediately after the work, but for many years ahead.
Finally, good relapse prevention is essential so my client feels confident to end their therapy in a time-efficient way, and can go forward with their lives having achieved positive lasting change.
My first session
During my first session I will undertake a full clinical assessment, with appropriate questionnaires as required.
At this session I also ask my client to think about exactly what they want to achieve from their work with me, and to attend their next session of treatment with these goals formulated.
