About me and my therapy practice

I qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor in 1991 and became a Íø±¬ÃÅ Accredited Counsellor in 2001.  I have worked in a variety of settings. These include voluntary counselling working with individuals experiencing a variety of challenging issues, GP surgery clients, employee assistance programmes and in private practice.

In my private practice I work with both individuals and couples. The main part of the counselling is talking and I will be providing you with space to explore what is happening for you in your own time.

Using creative materials can be very valuable and this can be included when seeing clients at my home or at the Naturality Wellness Centre.

One of the ways of working which many clients find suits them very well is Walking therapy.

Walking Therapy enables individuals to benefit from counselling in a therapeutic outdoor environment. Walking Therapy is a particularly effective form of counselling because of the benefits of being in nature and seeing the changing seasons around you and being aware of the impact these changes have on you personally. I am willing to walk in all weathers, the choice about whether to walk if the weather is challenging is up to you.

In addition to walking therapy I offer 'walk, wander and wonder' This is walking at a slower pace and enables you to appreciate everything around you, the bird song, the views, the many different trees, and the changing colours of nature. If you wish we can sit on one of the quiet benches to relax and enjoy everything  around you.  This is particularly valuable if you struggle with anxiety.

I also offer counselling by phone.

I provide personal therapy for students on counselling courses where personal therapy is a course/Íø±¬ÃÅ requirement.

Practice description

In my practice I believe that every individual is valuable and unique. I value that uniqueness and individuality and offer a relationship of equals that respects you as my client and offers a space for you to be yourself and to explore what is troubling you in your own way and in your own time.

I work in a Person-Centred way and offer empathy and unconditional positive regard and I endeavour to be real, honest and genuine in the counselling relationship. My commitment is to be alongside you and for us to work together for as long as you need the space. I have seen clients for as little as six weeks and for as long as 6 years and I believe that both short term and long term work is beneficial for individuals and couples depending on their needs.

Occasionally just one or two counselling session can be enough, allowing an opportunity for exploration and resolution of a current issue.

My first session

In the first session  we can explore together what you are looking for and what I can offer. It is important to me that you get the opportunity to ask questions and to find out more about the counselling process.

Once we have completed any practicalities we can begin to talk and you can share with me in your own way what has brought you to counselling. We will go at your pace and you can gradually share what you have been experiencing.

You will probably find that there are some experiences that you want to talk about straight away and that there are other experiences that you are not yet ready to talk about. I will be alongside you to hear you and to support you, how you use the time is up to you.

I offer 60 minute sessions and we will save a few minutes at the end to confirm the date of your next counselling session. Or this can be confirmed by phone or text later.
