About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling; feeling stuck or overwhelmed? And are you wanting to make a change, but wondering where to start?
Good quality counselling, where you feel really listened to and understood, gives you the opportunity to clarify your thoughts, make sense of your feelings, make choices about any changes you may want to make in life, and achieve a sense of resolution and peace.
But finding a new counsellor can be daunting, not least because there are so many to choose from! So please have a read of my profile, to see if you feel we might be a good ‘fit’ and could work together.
My name is Sarah-Jane, (she/her). I’m a qualified and experienced, and compassionate and down-to-earth, counsellor & psychotherapist.
If you’re looking to make sense of the difficulties in your life, break free from unhelpful patterns, or simply need a space to reflect, I’m here to facilitate that.
Clients come to me for many reasons, including anxiety, depression, feelings of low self-esteem, loss, past trauma, (including sexual), relationship difficulties, work-related issues, and navigating life transitions. I have particular knowledge & understanding helping people experiencing alopecia, or family estrangement, or divorce, and clients who are navigating issues around, or are comfortable with, their sexuality, gender identity, or neurodiversity.
Practice description
I currently offer sessions online (‘Zoom’) or by phone.
I work with adults; individually, or couples/relationally.
I use a variety of counselling approaches so I can provide you with the support that is right for you, whatever you’re going through.
My core training is in the Person-centred modality, and it is the foundation of my practice. This type of therapy is non-directive, and offers a warm, non-judgemental empathy, though may still involve gentle challenge. More details of how it works are available on my website.
If requested, I can also integrate mindfulness, self-compassion, trauma-informed practices, and creative resources, to support you to connect with your whole self.
I may draw upon other counselling techniques such as, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which can help you cope at a more practical level.
Whether you require short-term support to address specific concerns, or you're seeking longer-term therapy to delve deeper into underlying issues, we’ll find an approach that suits you as an individual and meets your unique needs.
My Qualifications include: Íø±¬ÃÅ Accreditation, a BA (Hons) Degree, (1st), in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy, OCN Diploma in Supervision, a Psychology BSc (Hons) Degree, a Post grad Diploma (partial) in mental health nursing, and a P.G.C.E. (Qualified Teacher Status).
I have further training in Solution Focused therapy, ACT, Person-Centred Couples Counselling, and have completed the CRUSE Awareness in Bereavement Care Foundation Course.
I have experience working in NHS mental health settings, (forensic, substance (mis)use and community).
I also attend regular and varied training, which has included courses on trauma, the impact of domestic violence, eating disorders, and menopause, amongst others.
Alongside my counselling work in private practice, I also offer Clinical Supervision to other helping professionals, and I am a counsellor at a local university.

About me and my therapy practice
Looking for supportive and collaborative, yet appropriately challenging and boundaried supervision, from an experienced supervisor?
Wanting to polish your skills and nurture the art of quality counselling?!
Needing to offload, reflect and feel understood?
Hi, my name is Sarah-Jane, (she/her). I’m a qualified and experienced, and compassionate and down-to-earth, counsellor & supervisor.
I offer 1-1 supervision to qualified and Level 5 and upwards trainees, online or via telephone.
As my modality is Person-centred, I am best suited to work with any Humanistic orientation. Happy to work creatively if wanted. A sense of humour is helpful!
The ethos of the supervision I offer to counsellors is that we aim to work towards a collaborative relationship of trust, underpinned with mutual openness, respect and understanding. This enables supervision to be empowering of the counsellor, and a place where they feel able to explore areas of difficulty, in the knowledge that the purpose of the work is to assist in counsellor development and client actualisation.
Practically, we will use the 7-eyed model of supervision as a framework, to explore all aspects of your client relationships, in a safe and supportive space. Together we will explore issues, risk, and ethical or safety concerns, with reference to the Íø±¬ÃÅ guidelines, ensuring you and your client’s well-being and safety are always at the forefront.
