About me and my therapy practice

Hello, thank you for visiting my profile.

Are you struggling with an issue that is holding you back? Are you experiencing stress or unhappiness? Would you like space to explore past experiences? From time to time we all need support to make sense of our thoughts and feelings and to find a way forward.

I am an experienced person centred counsellor who will sometimes integrate other approaches. My counselling practice offers a safe environment which is supportive and affirming of cultural and identity differences. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming in my approach.

I have an interest in and experience in supporting Neurodivergent individuals.

I work in a trauma-informed way tailoring therapy to suit your needs to help you achieve what you want from our work together. In our sessions you will have: space to explore what is going on for you, be supported to find insights and a greater understanding of yourself, become more aware of past and present issues so that you can feel better and move forward with confidence.

My background:

Before starting my practice, I worked as a counselling service manager and counsellor for a mental health charity as well as providing counselling in schools and for a bereavement service.

My counselling experience includes working with domestic abuse and sexual violence, childhood trauma, bereavement and complex grief, employment support and a wide range of mental health issues.

Relationship Counselling:

Relationships can often come under pressure from everyday life or as a result of difficult events and experiences. In relationship counselling I offer you a safe neutral space to explore feelings and to develop stronger connections and healthier communications.

How I work:

I can work with you over an agreed time period, short or long term or on an open-ended basis.

Sessions for both individual and relationship counselling are 60 mins. Sessions of 90 mins are also available for relationship counselling.

Practice description

Where sessions are held:

My counselling practice is based in North Shields and is conveniently located in the town centre close next to the metro and buses or there is on street parking close by.

I also offer online sessions to suit client need.

My first session

Prior to starting therapy I offer a free 20 minute phone call by way of introduction, to answer any questions you have and to enable us both to consider if we are a good fit for what you need. We then book in your first session.

The first session is an opportunity for us to meet and discuss more thoroughly what is going on for you and I will ask some questions to enable me to assess your needs and for us to collaboratively decide on a way forward.

About me and my therapy practice

My approach to supervision is to work collaboratively with supervisees using the Proctor Model as I find this to be aligned with my core Person Centred Approach.

I offer a supportive and reflective space for supervisees to explore client work and related personal issues. My supervisor training was in Creative Supervision including psychodrama and I enjoy integrating a variety of techniques and interventions.

I have 15 years experience as a therapist and have been a supervisor for 8 years. During this time I have supervised both student and qualified therapists in a range of settings including placements, private practice, voluntary sector organisations and education.

My clinical background is working with domestic abuse and sexual violence, trauma, loss, and relationships, neurodivergence and LGBT+ issues and I am also a couples counsellor.

I am an identity affirming therapist and supervisor with experience working with neurodivergent and LGBT+  individuals and have an interest in exploring how our own identities intersects with client work.

I also offer adhoc or short term supervision for those needing additional supervision support.
