About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative psychotherapist, informed by a number of therapeutic approaches, refining my practice through extensive training and clinical experience. My approach is relational and based upon support, respect, empathy and gentle challenge.

Over time, patterns become established in the way we relate to others, in our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. In this sense, the past can influence the present psychodynamically. Although what has gone before can bring greater understanding, the focus and catalyst for this exploration is always the ‘here and now’ experience that my client wishes to bring. Therapy provides a safe, confidential space where we work together to try and understand your emotional life better; exploring the patterns and ‘coping strategies’ that may be repeated in our daily lives. This brings greater understanding and self-awareness, which can facilitate growth, alleviate distress and lead to meaningful change for the future.

My motivation to train as a psychotherapist was my genuine belief that talking therapy can be transformative. I’ve worked in corporate environments and understand the pressures associated with busy lives, and, as a mum and step-parent myself the challenges of juggling expectations, work and family demands.

I would welcome the opportunity to answer any questions or queries you might have, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.  I am experienced working with clients face to face, online or on the phone.

Practice description

If you make an enquiry by phone or email, we can set up a time to have a twenty minute complementary initial telephone consultation to discuss how counselling and psychotherapy might be helpful for you.

The next step would then be to arrange an initial assessment session at a convenient time for you.  Moving forward, we would usually meet on the the same day and at the same time each week for 50 minutes. In some cases, sessions are less frequent and this is something that can be discussed and tailored to individual needs at the initial assessment session.

My first session

The initial assessment session gives us the opportunity to meet and helps you to learn more about the way that I work and consider whether you would like to move forward in your therapy with me. During the session we will talk through your current situation and what brings you to seek support, so I can gain a more in-depth understanding of your therapeutic needs. We will consider key life events and aspects of your past experience; what you would like to gain from the therapeutic process; any concerns you might have and what your goals and expectations are. We can consider whether you would like to work in a shorter term, time-limited way or whether longer-term, open-ended work might be more suitable for you. If you would like to proceed, we will agree a convenient appointment for you to meet with me, each week, for 50 minutes at the same time and location, although in some cases it might be less frequent than this.

Alternatively, we may decide after the first consultation that it might be more beneficial for you to work with another therapist or agency and in this situation I am able to assist with referrals should you wish me to do so.
