About me and my therapy practice

I am a Psychotherapist with over 12 years experience working with a wide range of mental health difficulties including trauma, PTSD, OCD, depression, anxiety disorders, eating difficulties, personality disorders.  

Most of us experience times in our lives when we feel lost, stuck, misunderstood and sometimes we can find ourselves in a dark place not knowing what to do or how to make the changes we might feel are needed. This can involve questioning who we are, wrestling with difficult questions, trauma, illness, addiction or loss. 

Sometimes people don't have anyone they feel able to talk to or sharing with people close might be difficult.  I hope to offer a space in which you can feel safe and respected while you explore these challenges and move towards improved mental health.

I will take time to understand your journey, what has happened to you and will strive to work with you in a way which aligns with your goals and priorities. I will strive to create a relationship with you based on understanding, acceptance and honesty. I hope our therapeutic relationship will enable you to feel safe enough to  explore your experiences.

I will not tell you what you should do with your life but I will help you to explore your options and think about the implications and what may be holding you back.  Often we have inner wisdom and know the path we want to take but may feel fearful of pursuing the path we want or making the difficult decisions. Sometimes having someone to stand back and look at the situation with will enable you to identify and make the changes you want.

​I have extensive experience of providing psychological therapy for a wide range of mental health difficulties, across the full age spectrum and range of complexity from mild to moderate to severe and enduring mental health illness. 

As your therapist I will be here to support you to understand yourself better, and to overcome the difficulties you are experiencing. 

Practice description

My approach involves drawing on a range of modalities and evidence based interventions to help you to work towards your therapeutic goals.  I will take time to understand what is important to you and to help you learn skills to manage things which may have kept you stuck. This could be learning skills to manage overwhelming emotions, or it could simply be taking time to make sense of things and understand yourself better, so that you may be able to see yourself more compassionately.  

My first session

Our first session will focus on taking time to understand what has brought you to therapy, thinking about your therapeutic goals and what you would like to get from therapy. I will take time to understand your history and what has / has not helped you in the past. We will have a discussion about what you need from therapy and talk about whether my approach is right for you.
